Question:
Can't I get all of my protein from food, rather than supplements?
My doctor has stressed the need to eat protein in food. He did not mention using supplements. He told me I would be taking daily vitamins and calcium. Do doctors differ regarding this issue? — [Anonymous] (posted on October 20, 1999)

Hi, I had R Y N, Fobi Pouch, extended version (distal?) done 5-6-99. My
doctor and dietician suggest getting most of the protein from food whenever
possible but thinks the protein powders work well as a suppliment.
Sometimes its hard to eat enough food to get all the protein (60-75 grams
is what we are to shoot for)you need. I've finally found a powder that
tastes good mixed with orange juice (which is a natural cover up mixed with
bad tasting things, ie: I mixed it with liquid potassium and it was
great!!). I sometimes throw in different kinds of fruit and some ice
cubes, give the whole thing a buzz with the hand blender and yummy. I use
the MLO Milk and Egg Protein powder which I got at Albertsons and it costs
$14.00 for 16 servings. Wish you well. Linda
