Question:
Can't I get all of my protein from food, rather than supplements?
My doctor has stressed the need to eat protein in food. He did not mention using supplements. He told me I would be taking daily vitamins and calcium. Do doctors differ regarding this issue? — [Anonymous] (posted on October 20, 1999)

It's amazing but the answer is yes. Each doctor does it differently. My
doctor has us taking protein supplements in the powder form with water
only. With as little as we eat he fills we will not be able to get all the
protein we need to maintain our health. Each doctor is different and they
might change if your tests show problems.

Hi. I had my surgery in Oct. of 1998. I am one year post-op. In the
beginning, probably the first 6 months I was taking protein supplements.
Now I don't, I get enough protein in the food I eat. I just make sure that
at each meal there is protein and that I eat that first. Also my snacks
usually have protein; yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, milk, etc. Good
luck.
