Question:
Has anyone ever had WLS WITHOUT having any co-morbidities?
I am seriously considering WLS and have NO (thank God!) Co-mobidities. I was wondering if anyone has been approved by their insurance companies for WLS without having any other "weight" problems( co-mobidities). — Dana M. (posted on June 15, 1999)

I am having the open RNY on June 22 and I have NO co-morbidites. Thank
Goodness. Usually if you are 200% of your ideal body weight insurance will
cover it without a co-morbitite. Good Luck.

I was approved for the surgery without the "common"
co-morbidities.
No diabetes, high blood pressure etc.. I did have lower back pain
shortness of breath when walking stairs, depression.. and this were
considered co-morbidities. So.. it is possible..

Dr. Cooper in Chico, CA, told me that most of the insurance cos. he deals
with don't seem to pay any attention to the co-morbidities. They look at
the weight and if it's within their guidelines they approve. Don't know if
that's always the case but good luck anyway.

Hi,
I recently had WLS and I had no medical problems. My doctor told me that I
was very healthy other than being overweight. Don't get me wrong I had the
usual problems like back pain and leg pain. I don't have any serious
problems like diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, I just met
the criteria for surgery because my BMI was 46 and I was well over 100lbs
over my idea body weight. I had surgery May 20th and have lost 30 pounds
and I don't know how many inches to this date. If you are struggling with
a weight problem I strongly suggest that you consider the surgery
