Question:
is it still possible to reach my goal after 4 years

I had a gastric bypass on 10/31/06, started at 310 got down to 205, back up to 230, is it possible to lose what ive gained and still get to goal..even after 4 years?    — RENEEAL (posted on January 24, 2011)

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm so frustrated. I'm anxious to hear the replies to this post.

First, huge congratulations on your weight loss and for keeping it off for four years!! You should be so proud of your accomplishment. You have only put on 25 pounds and of course you can get that back off. Over time, we all slip back into some old habits. You are smart to do something about it while it is still a small number. Try going back on the eating program you were on post surgery. High protein shakes, mostly liquid and very soft foods. If you have stretched your pouch out some, this will shrink it back. Drink lots of water, take your vitamins, and get plenty of exercise. Try walking a mile a day to start, and this can be broken up into quarter miles of necessary. Stay away from all sweets, high fat foods, and white carbs. (rice, potatoes, breads). You will be surprised at how quickly you can get this under control. Go into it with the same resolve you had the first time. You can do it!!!

I agree with Bonnie H. You can do it. You still have your tool. Remember the things you were taught in the beginning. Lean protein, then veggies last carbs. I also agree with getting your pouch to shrink. I have not done the ten day pouch test but from what I understand, it is helpful. Try to stay under 10 grams of sugar. Good luck and don;t give up!!

I will be 4 years out in April. I started at my highest 351 and my lowest was 182 (though only for probably 1 minute. lol). I stayed around 186 to 188. Then last December 2009, I started gaining. Now I am up to 211.4. I haven't changed my eating habits. It's almost like a switch was switched and now no matter what I'm gaining. I need help Please ??? I'm curious about the comments/answers you get. Good luck to you.

There are two things to keep in mind. First, after time we all slip into our bad habits that made us fat in the first place. Second, our metabolism changes with age and it also gets used to routine and both of these things cause it to slow down. You can battle both of these issues by doing what has already been suggested by other posts. Go back to the basics, review your dietary suggestions for post surgery. If you don't still have this material you can contact your nutritionist or go online and look for post bariatric diet plans, a good one is the 5 day pouch test. Lastly, sip, sip, sip. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps to keep you full and helps to wash the fat from your system at the same time helping to prevent some absorption of the fat and calories you are currently consuming. The most important things you have going for you is your desire, your determination, and your brain. You can do anything you set your mind to. The proof is the you're able to keep 80 lbs off. There are a lot who couldn't do that. Good luck.

I'm in the same boat. Surgery Oct 26, 2005 went from 300 to 180 then was back up to 220. I'm having a bariatric scan done next week to see what's going on with my pouch/stoma. In the mean time the weight loss Dr. (not my surgeon) put me on phentermine and I back down to 200 and still losing. If there's nothing mechanicaly wrong unfortunately it means I've messed it up.
