At my group meeting there is a woman who had the Lap-Band down and lost 193
BUT that is to what I have researched very rare.

I'm sure that you may find the odd person here and there who has lost that
much with a LAP band. But check with them again in 5 years and see how much
they've gained back. The question is not how much can a surgery help you
lose, but how much can a surgery help you keep off in the long term. If you
want the best long term results, look at the Duodenal Switch.

I am seven months out and have lost 145 lbs. I l ove how everyone who isn't
lapband says that it is the worst and you WILL gain weight back. No matter
which surgery you choose it is all about relearning self control and any
surgery is a tool to help you relearn that. Don't bash one surgery over
another based on rumor and innuendo!

Kent - I will answer based on no rumors and innuendos. I had lap-band for
4 1/2 years. That was the worst 4 1/2 years of my life with vomiting,
reflux, and band slippages. Come back here in 3-4 years and tell us how
you are doing. I will say that IF you are lucky enough NOT to have
problems with the band itself, and IF you are lucky enough to keep the
weight off, the wonderful for you. I was part of a group of 4 people that
got bands the same day and today only one of us still has it, and she is
just miserable and can't afford to have anything else done.
I revised to RNY but had my band out for about 3 months between that period
and managed to gain 10lbs back. I still logged my caloric intake and I was
under 1500 calories per day. Also, I stopped losing weight after 18 months
and could never lose another pound no matter what I did. I'm thankful for
what I have now, and realize that this is what I should have done to start
with. My portions are smaller and you get a better understanding of how
you are going to live for the rest of your life.
To the OP, there are people who have lost that much weight on the band, but
as others have said, you really must find someone to ask who is 5+ years
out from it. There are very few bandsters 5+ years out who have positive
stories to share. In the short term any weight loss is possible.

I had the band 2 1/2 years ago, I did lose weight 50 lbs but vomitting
every day with severe heart burn. I have decided to have a revision to RNY
and am having surgery June 8th. I just wish I had done this surgery the
first time around. I hope you find the answers you're looking for. Good
Luck!
