Question:
Feeling like I haven't lost enough weight
I have been in this disbelief stage. I started out 307 lost 21 pounds prior to surgery, insurance wanted me to lose 15 but I kept doing what I was doing until surgery so lost the 21. I had RNY on 12/16 and am now at 250 and feeling like I should have lost more by now. Possibly this is because a friend of mine that wasn't as heavy as me had surgery the same day (we were a team) and she looks FABULOUS only 3 months out she looks like I hope to look in a year. It's so hard not making comparisons. Is my weight loss on track? I have an appointment with my dietician next week, and am hoping that I don't feel like such a failure by that time!!! — Fogg1958 (posted on March 7, 2010)

that is odd you have only lost 36 lbs in 3 months esp when its the first 3
months but at least you are losing. what types of foods are you eating? and
are you still only eating 3-5 ounces of food per meal? also figure out
exactly how many calories you are consuming a day. maybe doing a food
journal will show you something you dont realize plus taking this info with
you to your doc appt will help them to figure it out. lots of luck

Are you getting in enough protein and not eating alot of carbs? Are you
drinking at least 64oz. of water and exercising? Even if all you can do
right now is walk, that is the best exercise you can do in the early
stages. I knew someone who, at 6 months, only lost 45#. She didn't tell
her surgeon that she sat at her desk all day eating pretzels and other junk
foods. Make sure you goback to basics: protein first, lots of water, no
snacking between meals and exercise.

Glad to see your seeing a Nut. She will be your best advice. Make sure
and take your food log with you. It may be that your not eating enough.
If you lost 21 pre surgery and another 36 it sounds like your doing great.
As hard as it is to compare we are all different and lose different. Make
sure to measure yourself as you ARE losing inches so be happy. At 1 year
out it won't make any difference who lost what and when!! You will be
heathlier and happier.

DO NOT COMPARE YOUR SELF TO ANY ONE.....EVER.... our bodies are all
different and we loose weight differently.. you are not a failure.. you
have lost 57lbs so far.. that is great.. in 3 months time you lost 36lbs..
that is rigth on track...the average loss is approx 20lb the first month
and then 10 a month after.. so you are just coming up to your 3 month check
up and have lost 36lbs that is almost right on the nose for the 40lbs
average.. so no YOU ARE NOT FAILING.. don't ever let yourself get
discourged comparing your self to another person.. averages are just that
averages.. some loose more and some loose less.. remember you have a whole
year to 18 months to lose the weight you need to loose.. and sometimes the
slower you loose and the more exercise you do you will not have as much
flabby skin..(depending on your age).. so please just follow your
instructions and do what is necessary and keep at it.. let the weight come
off as it will.. you can not control your body like you think you can.. it
will decide when to stall and it will decide how fast to let go of the
weight and it will not say oh well her friend lost more so I better let go
of some more so she can loose as fast as her.. lol... so just let your body
work at its pace.. you are doing great.. losing 21 before surgery was
great.. that was hard.. no tool to help you.. so I see YOU CAN DO THIS.. so
hang in there and relax and let your body do its thing.. this works so have
patience..

You are doing fine...You really must wait an entire year to really see the
amazing results...I too started out over 300 lbs and it was not until I was
3 mos PO that I began to "see" the weight loss. Once I lost 60
lbs, could I even able to see any really difference...But as you get
smaller, even smaller weight loss numbers look so much bigger becuase you
have less to lose! At 315 pounds...10 pounds is a big dinner and a glass
of water! As you get smaller, 10 pounds is about a dress size! So be
patient...work hard...See your nutritionist as planned just to stay in
check...and don't feel like a failure because we all lose at different
rates and you have lost a signifcant amount prior to surgery! Losing
slower might be frustrating, but it's actualy much more gentle on your
body/skin etc...Good luck!!!
