Question:
I keep hearing how bad that Splenda and artificial sweetners are for us
Splenda/stevia??? I need something in my decaf coffee and tea. I have baked with splenda and it works great. Also looking for support groups in Southern DallasCounty, Dallas TX... — DKCooley (posted on May 30, 2009)

I use Stevia and LOVE it...It's natural and has some nutrition (although
trace amounts) it's still better than artifical as far as I am
concerned...I have slowly become intolerable to some of those fake
sugars/sugar alcohols and SF products...They bother me as much or MORE than
real sugar and I have gotten to the point that if a product has less than
12 grams per serving, I will rather use sugar than SF! I don't bake
anymore...Not often anyway...but when I do, I use Stevia and a little raw
sugar blend...I did not eat ANY sugar the first year +....Now I do a little
in moderation...My body reacts to artifical sweeteners worse than the
dumping I get with real sugar...That says something to me..."eat
fruit!"! LOL BTW...I make my full caffiene instant coffee (1 cup
daily) every morning with vanilla protein powder and a dash of organic
cinnamon (fights belly fat and regulates blood sugar among other
things!)...It's a nice vanilla protein latte every morning! I love it! I
whip it with a submerseable hand held mixer that puts an awesome thick
froth on the top too...just like the coffee shops...I use regular coffee
too...but you have to let it cool a little before adding the protein or it
will get lumpy...

I don't know but if artificial sweeteners are harmful, I will be the test
rat to prove it because i use them alot. I drink tea and coffee with them.
Satisfys my sweet tooth. I drink alot of crystal lite drinks too. I don't
know what they use. Good grief ya can't give up EVERYTHING!!

Just want to suggest you should post on the Texas board also about locating
a support group. That's your best chance for finding one in your area.

I use splenda. I had to take 6 months of classes before being submitted for
RNY approval and they said both Splenda and Stevia were fine for us. But,
if you have and plant or grass allergies, be careful Stevia and it is a
plant.
I hate Sweet & Low.
Equal is the worst for me and in the classes the told us it was termed as
one of those things to avoid. For me personally, I cannot use equal. I get
headaches and it affects my memory; lots of weird stuff with that one.

I have not researched it myself, but my nutritionist says there's something
in artificial sweeteners that trigger food cravings. She recommends
Stevia.

I am trying to steer away from Nutra-Sweet & Splenda. I've used them
for years, but now I'm expereincing some G.I. problems that I believe is
related to them. I just recently converted to Stevia (Truvia brand)in my
morning cup-o-joe until I can go off of sweetners altogether. I find that
as I use sweetners, I tend to crave sweets. So if I can kick that habit, I
will not be tempted to eat stuff that will sabotage my new lifestyle.

I use only the Splenda/Sugar blend in the orange/yellow bad because I have
also heard that it is bad for you! This you will love and I am tolerating
it with greatness!

There are reports that splenda has cancer causing agents in it. It is
chemically reversed sugar. I use a product I get at Walmart called Sun
Crystals. It is stevia and pure cane sugar (which is better for us than
beet sugar) mixed. It only has 5 calories per serving and taste great and
is less expensive than truvia which is pure stevia.

Sweet-n-Low, Equal, regular sugar - makes me ill or makes me dump. I can
handle Splenda just fine - so that is what I use and was OK'ed by my
surgeon and NUT. Good luck to you. Find something you can tolerate and
stick with it
