Question:
Prior to surgery, did anyone sweat so much
under the breast that you have redness like severe diaper rash and peeling? I have tried numerous bras but nothing works. Any one know anything that works? — Kathy Thomas (posted on October 13, 2008)

Breast reduction surgery? LOL! That's what I did anyway. I feel for you
because I had the exact same problem and was miserable! I have a friend
that sticks bandanas under each of the "girls".

Hello, I have not had surgery yet but I do have the problem with skin
touching skin from the breast touching the midriff. What I did was buy spme
soft diapers and fold them in half and put them under both breasts. Also my
dr. gave me a prescription for barrier cream to put in the affected area.
try it, it really works. toni
ps good luck

The sweat cannot evaporate because there is no air flow. Bacteria grows
and can cause this any where on your body where the conditions are right.
A good medicated powder like Gold Bond works wonders. Wash the area with a
mild soap and pat dry. If your like me, you may want to lay down on the
bed, and powder that and any other areas that tend to get and stay moist.
You wern't too far off when you said diaper rash. Babies with fat rolls
who sweat, or drool will also develope the same condition.
Good luck!

Kathy, I had the same problem. After, wls the rash seems to be cleariing
up because there is some weight loss with breast size. Maybe you will see
some relief after weight loss surgery.

I tried the Gold Bond powder. It did not work. I can't wait to get the
bra off when I get home. Nice to know there are others like me. Thanks
for the advice. I will try some of those.

Dry the area very well after your shower...and then put some cornstarch
(yes...plain old corn starch...don't waste your money on the 'Johnson &
Johnson' one...it's the same thing as the Argo one for 4x as much money).
The goal is to keep the area dry. If you have to, reapply the corn starch
a few times during the day.

This is most likely a yeast infection. Very common for women with large,
heavy breast. I use some anti-perspirent, plain deodorent does not work as
well. My PCP gave me a script for an anti fungal cream which really helps.
Daily (I live on a hot desert) I use a powder I get at a large pharmacy,
needs no script...called ZeaSorb. It comes in several formulas now...look
for the anti fungal one. PCP recommened it and it works great. Since I
began to loose weight I have used cornstarch instead.

the rash is a fungal infection. fungus likes warm, damp places and will
continue to grow there until the dampness goes away. Corn powder works
half the time. You can also try over the counter clotrimazole or even
generic monistat in this area. You can go to your doctor and get
prescription creams and there is even a prescription powder that works very
well called nystatin. Hope this helps.

Ask you pharmacist for triple paste....it is non prescription over the
counter ointment, but usually it's behind the counter. A little bit pricey,
but it works like a miracle. Rash will be less angry immediately, and will
soon be gone. Be careful, some bras, when the elastic starts to get old or
break down from bleach, will instigate and the rash will return. Obviously,
been there.....had that and was amazed at how quickly I healed with the
triple paste.

give me it is called silver sulfadiazine cream, I wash really good and put
this on and next day I am cleared up.

Neither the Gold Bond or the cornstarch worked for me but when I combined
them half and half and used a powder puff to put on it worked wonderfully.
Only need to use about once a week now or when it's really hot out.

Hi Kathy,
I have had the same issue. I use the baby powder with corn starch, it
works well. I have also used a hair dryer after showering to make sure the
skin is totally dry without rubbing... that just got me more irritated. I
also now have a prescription powder... nystatin... from my dr.. WORKS
GREAT!!! I am starting to have this same problem in other areas as well
since my WLS, and the Nystatin really does the trick!!!
Hope you find some relief soon!!

I have had this issue all my life being a very large breasted woman.
Infact, I have it real bad right now going on. Basically, it is because of
no air flow and bacteria grows in the moisture and it turns into a yeast
infection. Gold Bond or straight up corn starch that you use for cooking
has always worked for me. Like right now when it is really bad and out of
control, I take a prescription called Diflucan which is doctor prescribed
for yeast infections and 1/4 the price of the products in the store for
yeast infections. It is just one pill and works wonders. You may want to
watch too, because when I take antibiotics, that will flare it up really
bad for me too. And mine is due right now to antibiotics from having my
surgery unfortunately and it got out of hand on me because I had Open RNY
and was afraid to get all that powder, etc. anywhere near my incisions and
I was not able to get to the doctor for a new prescription. Hope this
helps you out some and congrats to you on your surgery and future
weightloss! :)

I use cornstarch on a daily basis with a powder puff and when it is real
hot out I even use a panty liner pad under each breast. Just stick em to
your bra and let the liners hang out just a little from underneath that
way your bra wont touch your skin at all just the pad and when you sweat
the pad absorbs the sweat not the elastic part of the base of your bra.
I also use baby wipes to wash my breast after I take my bra off and
then dry real good and add fresh cornstarch.
Now for any rashes in other private parts I use either cornstarch or
regular diaper rash ointment. Try and keep baby wipes in your bathroom
at all times because they are great to have around all the time. So I
hope this helps....

Hi Kathy,
I have battled with this problem since I got diabetes and gained a lot of
weight. The dermatolgist I see told me to go to Walmart and pick up a tube
of zinc oxide. A little dab will do you each day. It prevents it from
happening. Works for me.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I had a chronic yeast infection
because my boobs were huge. I would put wash cloths underneath them to soak
up the sweet. I also used a antifungal cream to the breast. But what really
makes the rashes go away is a breast reduction. I had mine reduction a few
years ago and my insurance paid for it because I had documentaion from my
dermatolgist that she has treated it and I had pictures submitted to my
insurance company. I also take diflucan when I get a nasty yeast infection
in my saggy groin area which I will need a mons plasty. Good luck

Hi, I have that problem also, I get it in the groin area under my stomach
too, the only thing that works for me is diaper rash ointment. It relieves
the pain and itching and the rash disappears, usually, in a day.
Hope this helps

I do not have this problem, but have a son that gets horrible diaper rash,
and I have chaffing problems when I wear a skirt. What I have found that
works best for the healing process for my son is lanolin lotion (the lotion
you use for breastfeeding), and then for my chaffing problems before they
start Monistat has made an anti-chaffing cream that goes on dry and seems
to stop the problems before they start for me.
Hope this helps.

That would be yeast living under there! You have to keep that area DRY.
To do that, I use Lotrimin Foot Powder, because yeast is a fungus, and it
is eating your skin! Literally! Twice a day, wash the area, throroughly
dry it, then apply the powder. In a few days the rash will go away. After
it is completely gone, use only talc powder there. If you use cornstarch
based powders, the yeast will come back and have a feast. They LOVE
cornstarch!

I had this trouble until my belly flap shrunk up and tightened...I used
Desitin Diaper Rash cream and that was the ONLY thing that worked for
me...Cornstarch was great unless it was an unusually hot day or I was very
active that day...SO it was hit or miss with the powders...But the Desitin
kept the rash at bay and healed...Chronic rashes can become dangerous!
...If it persists...go to the doc and have it documented and looked at of
course...Some insurance companies will pay for plastics if it is a chronic
problem and is documented by a medical doctor! Good luck!

Finally, a question that I may be able to help with. It's awful, I have it
with both areas.Upper and lower. You need to keep it dry, that's the key.
I use corn starch. It works to dry up the moisture and relieve the pain.
The redness & rash will go away. I also put a long always pantie liner
over the area and let it stick to my bra. It helps wick away the moisture.
Just recently, I tried a deodorant Arm&Hammer Essentials. I learned of
this on the Today show. It's supposed to allow your skin to slide so your
skin is not rubbing together to create the friction, which creates the
problem (that & the moisture) I tried gold bond cream when this first
started happening and it burned but then it helped. But the corn starch,
pantie liner is the way to go. Only use the deodorant when you have no
rash/redness. good luck I'm sure you'll find relief.

When I was heavy (470 pounds ) the only thing that kept me dry is simple
cornstarch. It is chep and works really well. But the greatest thing is
when you do start losing weight it will more than likely be there first it
was with me. I feel your pain I went many years having to use the
cornstarch because of rashes.

First get the rash under control....has to be dry for that to happen. Once
it is all cleared up, use Dry Idea Deodorant after every shower...under
your breasts and belly if you have that problem too nd you will never see
that rash again!!!! Guaranteed! It is so easy its ridiculous....wish I
had known sooner.

Hi Kathy,
I am a kathy too. I used to have the same problem, and this is what I used.
I used store brand athletes foot ointment called clotrimazole cream usp 1%
and then put monostat medicated soothing care powder over it. It also helps
with skin folds and tummy overhangs. You see usually the redness and
irritation is caused by the same virus or what ever causes athletes foot.
Good luck and I hope it works for you

I have also had luck with the Monistat anti-chafing cream. It works great
to help keep you from getting a rash. However, if I do get one, I use and
ointment called Calmoseptine. It has been rather hard to find, put can be
ordered online. I was introduced to it when I was having the rashes under
my breasts after I had knee replacement surgery. My rehab nurses ordered it
up for me, and I have been using it ever since. Both items work equally
well under the tummy too.

I learned a lot from the answers to your post. i TOO HAVE USED CORNSTACH
AND DIAPER RASH CREAM. aND THEY DO HELP. I BECAME ALERGIC THE THE DIAPER
CREAM, PROBABLY THE ZINC IN IT. SO I TRIED THE GLYCERIN OIL AT Walmart.
Works great and no smell. One that has not been mentioned. I love it all
over and you can use it for dry hair too. Mix it with your shampoo. Debbie

I have lost 75 LB so far and no longer have the problem but I did. For me
the key was keeping it clean and dry. I washed and dried it well before I
put my bra on and then again when I took it off. I was careful not to rub
the area to much. Patted dry. Good luck!

I had this and used what they use for yeast infections.
Any of the products work. I would put it on and then try to lay down
without anything on so the air would get to it. After a couple of days it
would get better. I was also told that if you go to your doc for this and
get it documented that some insurances will pay for a breast lift *wink*
I'm workin it! *giggle*
