Question:
is anyone too skinny?

Its been 1 yr and I went from 247 to 128 so far a size 20 to a size 3. I had rny. When am I going to stop losing? I think I'm ok but everyone else that knows me says I'm too skinny I don't want to gain weight but I don't want to lose anymore either, any suggestions?    — acalderilla (posted on July 5, 2008)

Anne, I'm 17 months out and from 287 to 178 and my partner says I'm too skinny, the little old ladies are work say I've lost enough; however, for me -- 178 is still a little to close to 200 pounds -- you know what I mean. Just long as you are comfortable and satisified about yourself and your body will stop losing when it's ready. I've been at 178-180 for about 6 months now and what I really need to do is stay in the gym and put on some muscle. I know after the tummy tuck and breast lift about 10-15 pounds of lose skin will be taken off so I know once he takes off the stomach skin I'm going to be smaller -- waist line is going to be smaller. My thighs will be the same and surgery for that lose skin will come later. So don't despair -- just allow your body to do it's thing and not worry about what other people THINK is TOO SKINNY.

i am in sorta the same boat - started at 286lbs. (size 26/28) and not at 145lbs. (size 2/4/6). people I have known a long time - say I am too thin; but it's because they've seen me large and chubby with too much meat on my bones for so long that seeing me this way - thinner, less meat on my bones - they freak a bit. people I've meet since surgery or now that I am thin, think I look amazing. It's all perspective, truly. I am in maintenance mode myself. aside from a few food poisioning incidents, I haven't lost any weight in over 5 months. I would ask... r u comfortable and where you want to be? then maintain. if you still want to get down to a specific goal, do it. it's all about you and not about what other people think. as long as you are happy, healthy then that's all that matters. congratulations my friend. it's an amazing feeling to be thin. :)

I am a year and three weeks out from my RNY. I started at 276 and am now 140. I feel I am too skinny and the doctor told me to gain back about 20 lbs. I don't have any meat to sit on so my tail bones hurts after 5 minutes of sitting. I've gone from a size 26 to a size 6. I had my gall bladder removed in Feb of this year and a double small bowel resection repaired three weeks ago. I was holding at 150 until the small bowel obstruction presented itself. I'm eating every 2-3 hours something, fruit, yogurt, protein bars, soups, sugar free jello and other things. I'm maintaining at 140 lbs fine but not gaining. Any suggestions from the members at obesityhelp.com?

I feel like I a in the same boat as you. I started off at 251 with a goal of 150. I am on maintenance. This morning I am at 139 and a size 4-6. I am almost 9 months out. I have been working with the nutritionist at the clinic, adding more carbs, etc. I am in the weight range for my height 132-151 but for me the 139 is too thin. I am 58 and it makes me look way too thin. I seem to be maintaining between 139-142. The nutritionist at the clinic has been very helpful but I can't seem to gain any weight. I want to have plastics but wonder what I would weigh then. I never thought I would have this problem. To some it may not be a problem for some but it is or me. I guess we just have to get comfortable with our size and don't listen to what others say other than the doctor.

Congrats on your fantastic weight loss. I went from 286 to 113. I'm only 5'6 so that is pretty tiny for my frame. However, I'm back up to 123 and feel so much better. By the way I'll be celebrating my four year anniversary this Tuesday and loving every minute of it. Hang in there you will level out sooner than you realize.

Are you folks working out? I'm interested in whether or not you are maintaining muscle mass.

Hi Ann, you have done so very well with your surgery! It is hard to understand, but girl, you have to start eating a little more and try and balance your calories. As far as others are concerned, they are just not used to seeing you thin, so you have to train yourself to ignore them, but you MUST eat more to balance your weight. Even though you are 128, and that is a good weight, with all the excess skin you have, you probably are the size of someone around 110, so keep that in mind. I currently weigh 139, but am a size 6, and if I had all my skin issues resolved would be around 120. Try new foods, and chew them well and have small portions of them, but I would snack and work on that balance. Be sure you get enough calcium and vitamins too, your bones need it. Drinking milk is also a good help for your bones and for protein. Beef it up girl, maybe for the first time in your life, but also use balance! You can naturally gain some back, so just keep working on finding the balance between nutrition and balanced weight. Take care! Patricia P.

There are a lot of people that start at 250 and less and get teeeny tiny in the low 100's and worry. Your body will stop when it's reached where it wants you to be...and at that point you will probably even gain a tiny bit back as seems to be the norm with everyone. Just eat healthy and work on muscle toning rather than cardio work outs and that might help you look less "skinny"...After weight loss a lot of skin and what fat is left kinda hangs...and it makes you look so much smaller than you might actually be. Adding muscles makes your bones less "sharp" LOL....I'm 160's and people think I am about 140's and I feel great because I have built muscle which fills out some of that loose skin...Not all of it! :::Sniffles:::: but enough I can live without plastic surgery....Don't worry too much...You're system and body is working to keep you healthy and as long as you are giving it vits and healthy food...You'll b egin to level out and your body will shift after time too...It "fluffs" or bulks (for lack of a better word) back up a little within 2-3 years...And you begin to look less boney and frail.

This is in response to T.G. Yes, I work out two times times a day and five days a week doing lots of cardio. I have quite a bit of tight muscle tone considering I started out at 286. Granted I wouldn't mind a boob job, because I have a tiny chest, but I wouldn't trade it back to what I use to look like for anything. My measurements are currently 33-24-34 and I look great in a bathing suit. Granted I still wear a one piece, but on occasion I do wear a two piece. Hope this helps.
