Question:
RNY wls, why can't the doctor remove scar tissue during surgery?
There is a test that the doctor can order for those persons that had previous stomach surgery. Any comments? — Toby2 (posted on June 27, 2008)

Scar tissue is called Adhesions. Usually most Surgeon's take down the
adhesions . It is your op report ot woll be called lysis of adhesions. This
could cause great pain and bowel obstructions. If a doctoe has a bunch od
ahesuons he takes then down so can what he is doing. I have had the
adhesions and bowel obstructuin. Know I am have recision of my gastic byass
and I have a lysis of my adhesion done to. I hope I helped. Dawn

I am unsure about the beginning of your question. The "test" you
are talking about??? Do you mean an ultrasound or CAT scan to check on the
status of your adhesions prior to surgery so he can know what he's getting
into? Please clarify.
The other Dawn before me answered perfectly about lysis of adhesions, I
couldn't add to it. Good to have us nurses around isn't it?
Having spoken with you many times personally and knowing your surgeon is
only willing to do open RNY on you tells me that he is more than likely
expecting adhesions and chooses to work on them in an open surgery rather
than laparoscopically. I know you are nervous, you have done so much
research and pre-op work, relax and breathe my friend.
Good luck,

I had a massive amount of adhesions from a previous abdominal surgery. I
found out when I actually went to the hospital to have my schedule Lap RNY?
Of course once the doctor went in he had to come right back out! I was very
very disapointed but I found another WL surgeon who did the open RNY. It
takes longer to recover from but I am doing fine. Haven't felt any
discomfort since 31/2 weeks out and lost 47 lbs since initial pre op
consult!! So don't be afraid, hold your breathe and dive in the water is
warm!
