Question:
How is it possible for someone to be a size 24 and go to a size 2?

Are they cutting women's clothes larger these days? I think I may have worn a size 2 when I was 10 years old! LOL I'm 36 now! I currently wear between a 28/30...down 150 pounds today from my WLS on 07/27/2007...but I have NO hopes of ever reaching a size 2. First, I'm 5' 7", so I think a size 2 would be unhealthy and too thin (if anyone could imagine such a thing...LOL). I'd be happy weighing between 200 and 220 pounds, like I did in high school and being a size 18. I'm very happy with my weight loss of 150 pounds, but I still have between 89 and 119 pounds to go for that goal. And, considering 200-220 is still considered overweight, I'd have to lose another 35-65 to reach my ultimate "goal weight". I am envious of those who started at a size 20+ and are now down to a size 2, but just curious at your height/weight ratio and if you have extra skin or if you had it removed or what. Congrats to those of you who were able to achieve such dramatic results!    — ALafferty (posted on April 2, 2008)

Anya... Anything is possible, truly. I never thought I would get into a size 10, let alone a size 4 and fit into my first size 2 the other day. I am 5'8" am 36 years old and started at 286lbs at my heaviest. I am 147lbs to date and a size 4 - working on a size 2. I have lost 137lbs and feel great. I do not have extra skin - or at least not enough to bother me or make me feel uncomfortable. I am very proportionate (even with I was fat) and have a small frame (go figure) so my body keeps losing weight, then inches, etc. My ultimate goal was 180 which was considered fat, but not unhealthy. Now I have to watch I don't get too thin or skinny and check my BMI - which is healthy, but 8 more lbs down and i will be underweight. BIZARRE! I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Good luck and if you make it to a size 18 - your ultimate goal - be happy. if you go under, be happy. if you don't be happy with the weight loss thus far. you are amazing and an inspiration. cheers.

I'm the same way...I never was a size 2! I never want to be a size 2...and I have no intentions of ever going near that without being deathy ill to get there! I am a solid person...and if I doubt I could reach a small number with my muscle, even if I tried! I started my weight loss in a size 32+ I couldn't even find clothes to fit me from the store. I wear an 8 now! I can squeeze uncomfortably in a 6! LOL and losely in a 10....Who cares? If you feel good and are healthy at 220 then do not worry about what number you are...You are Ms Anya...not Ms Size 2. You would look like skin and bones with your height. If that is how you want to look...that is certainly up to you as long as you are healthy...Health first...Vanity second! That's my motto! A little of both is good too! Just means you like yourself enough to continue to take care of you!

Anya - Congratulations on your great weight loss! Regarding sizes, yes they have changed over time - they are getting larger and larger. Also, more expensive brands are sized larger than less expensive brands - its a marketing thing. I am 5'6" and I weigh on an average 135lbs. I wear a misses size 4 at Talbots, Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, etc. I have had my first round of plastics (lower body lift). I am underweight despite the fact that 135 seems like a reasonable weight for my height. How do I know? My ribs stick out and my breasts disappeared. It seems, like a lot of WLS patients who carried excessive wt for many years that I have built up a lot of bone weight which makes scale hopping unreliable. I will probably also lose another 10lbs when my plastic surgeon does my arms to remove excess skin and when he does my thighs. Despite being underwt I have a lot of flab on my thighs and arms. I can't wait to look more balanced. Bottom line is that skinny does not mean healthy. I am working to build muscle tone and core body strength to replace what I lost and lets be honest, what I never had to begin with - LOL! I would say, follow your docs orders and then work on just being healthy and strong. I would rather weigh 20lbs more and be really strong than wear a size 2 any day! Hope this helps! ResovledVA

I used to wear a size 20 now I wear an 8 or 10. I have lost 100 pounds and I am 5' 4". I got down to a size 6 and I looked sickly. Don't worry about the size worry about how you look and feel. I ended up having a tummy tuck and new boobies last summer. The Dr got rid of 6 pounds of skin. I really feel much better not having that hanging around. I am 4 1/2 years post op RNY.

Hi...well, I had rny 15 months ago. I started at 280 pounds, size 24 or 3X. As of today, I weigh 137 pounds....I have lost 20 pounds in the last 6 months...slowly but surely....I wear a size 4 or 6 in pants and an 8 on top....I do have some excess skin which seems worst in the inner thigh area but I figure, I am almost 40, not 20 and I really don't need to ever wear a bathing suit so who cares? I have felt great since I lost the first 30 pounds and feel great now....I have no desire to lose anymore weight and will just work to maintain where I am at...(and absolutely they are sizing clothes differently now....I think when they added sizes 0 and 00 into most major lines, that just brought size 12s down to 10s and 10's down to 8s and so on.....! When I was this size years ago, I was never in a 4!!! What a marketing gimmick!) Good luck!

I had my surgery open rny on 11-27-08 I'm 42, I stared at 287 and i just hit 100 lbs on 3-30-08 (I cant believe it) i'm 5"7 and was wearing a 32 before the surgery, I am now wearing a 12-14. I still would like to lose another 40 to 50 lbs which should put me into a 5 or a 7 I hope. So far my skin is good not to flabby and hoping it stays like that. But my breast could sure use a lift. Goood luck!!!

I do believe that sizes are just numbers. I started out a size 20, i've lost 100 lbs (4-1/2 years out) I'm a size 4/5 but i still feel fat cause i'm really flabby in my stomach area. I'm hoping after my tummy tuck next month, i will finally feel the way a size "4" is suppose to feel. I'd rather be a firm, tight 10 then a flabby 4.

I to was never a size smaller the 10 my whole life. But I lost 134 lbs. and went from a size 18 pants to a misses 4 and Jrs. 7 which is a bit loose and a 3x top to a large or medium. I don't question it I just relish in the fact that now I can buy really cute clothes and I'm health and happy for the first time in my life. Joni

Well I started at a size 28 but now I am wearing a 12W. I have lost 147 lbs. I have come from 13 pills and a patch a day to 2 pills and my supplements. Measuring our success by our health and how we feel makes me feel so much better than thinking in terms of a clothes size. I am 6' tall so people say are you a size 2 (hilarious) Not even close. But do I feel healthy? Yes, do I feel attractive? Yes, do I feel like I have come a long way Oh yes!
