Question:
3 days after first fill and I am hungrier and not feeling restriction.

I just had my first fill 3 days ago and i am feeling hungrier than before. The Doctor says I had 2 1/2 and he added another 1 1/2. What is going on?    — Clarisse2007 (posted on January 27, 2008)

Clarisse, thanks for writing. I don't have a band, so I need to say that up front, but maybe I can help you a little. There is a harmone in your stomach that produces the hunger that you feel. As you go through your daily, weekly and monthly changes, that hunger will not change just because you have a fill, and your upper pouch is full. The harmone in your stomach will still tell your head that you are hungry. Obeisty is a head issue with a body consequence, and you have to fight obeisty at the source, the head. The tool of the band will help you, but you have to fight the head. Drinking warm fluids helps with this hunger, but is is more a head issue than a stomach issue. Also, as you lose weight, keep in mind that you will lose weight as you have always lost weight, your body will take in less calories, and you will exercise and drink water, and you lose weight. If you lost slowly in the past, you will lose slowly now. Your body is the same except it has this banding tool to help control the amount of food you eat at one time. I had the rny because I wanted to have the mal-absorptive quality that the surgery provided. I still lost slowly. It wasn't big amounts every week, but mostly 1-3 pounds every week for a year. It was walking 5 miles a day, drinking water and watching what I ate that took off the weight, even with having the mal absorption in my intestines, so you may lose slow, but just be thankful you are losing and take one pound at a time. The band and the RNY are not miracles, just tools. Use that tool well, and you will do fine. Take care. Patricia P.

It took 4 fills for me to feel any real restriction and by that time I'd lost quite a lot of weight sticking to the eating and exercising plan. I haven't had a fill since September 2007 and although I feel the most restriction that I want my weight loss has slowed significantly. I find that it doesn't decrease my hunger - only that I fill up really quickly and have to be careful. Changing lifestyle seems to be the biggest hurdle and remembering that the band is just a tool. I love it because it keeps me losing (even if it is slowly) and from at least gaining if I stick to the appropriate lifestyle (the hard part).

I had no restriction & no weight loss until my 3rd fill. It's all part of the process. Frustrating & hard to have patience, but part of the process.

I know that you have already heard this three times before, but I will also concur that I felt absolutely no restriction until I received my fourth fill. Like they said, it's a process that you just have to deal with.
