Question:
I am 4 days out and evertime I stand up I have burning pain left side.
The pain is over the large incision it is not the incision itself it is internal. It burns so badly I must sit down...Any ideas my MD says it is scar tissue. — Foosin2001 (posted on January 1, 2008)

Try a heating pad, sometimes it helps. No more than 20 minutes at a time,
though. Did they teach you how to splint your belly in the hospital? Get
a small blanket or a large towel and fold it up and hold it firmly on your
belly when you have to get up or move. Take your temperature each day.
Sometimes this kind of pain indicates an infection. If you have a fever
call your doc right away. It gets better from here, I promise. Good Luck!

I had this same type of pain after surgery (I had lap RNY) and I wanted to
die!! I took pain meds (not a lot of help) and a heating pad. Apparently
this is very normal. This is where one of the instruments is used during
lap surgery. Hang in there. It will get better in a few days.

I had lap band surgery and had same feeling, but laying on my right side on
back for the first few days helped. Each day it gets a little better, it
is the scar tissue. If you were sent home with a liquid pain med, I advise
taking it, it does help. Congratulations on your surgery, Mrs Pete

this is the pain in the butt kinda pain. i had it too. and if memory serves
me right, i too asked the same question. i found that putting a pillow
next to me when i slept, helped alot. you just had major surgery and you
are going to be sore. the left side is where they tend to do the most work
it will get better. but in the mean time, i know it hurts. if you were
given any pain med. take it. i wish you the best of luck. congrats...kim

Hang in there, it gets better, I promise. This location suffered a lot of
trauma during your surgery... I had the same sensation, I was told that it
was probably internal bruising and when you go to stand it inflames the
bruises just as pushing on an external bruise would hurt. Take your
temperature twice a day (well, that's what my physician directed for
post-op for two weeks, and your pulse -resting) if your temp goes about
101 call the doctor's office immediately, also if your resting pulse is
racing (even without a fever) contact the office. Those are two indicators
to watch for problems. We don't want problems! You hang in there, grind
up some regular tylenol (powder) and maybe that will help (provided it is
on your approved meds list--check with the doc first) good luck, Leslie

The doctor says when we have cut's in the inside the take longer to heal
because the cut is inside your abdominal.

I think this pain is fairly normal - it hurts whenever you try to stand up
or lay down or sit down, right? Trust me, that will get better. Give it
another week, but I bet you're feeling a lot better and more mobile before
then.

this might be all true. just be careful and ask the md more questions if
you're not sure.
