Question:
Do any of you know another person who has gastric bypass that has a j-pouch?
The j-pouch is created when the colon is completely removed, and the small intestine is created into a pouch. — bobbijo78 (posted on August 10, 2007)

This j-pouch thing seems inappropriate -- unless you are having problems
with your colon. Hese's what I found on the Web about j-pouch: "The
ileoanal reservoir procedure is a surgical treatment option for chronic
ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and familial polyposis patients who need
to have their large intestine (colon) removed. An ileoanal reservoir (or
pouch) is an internal pouch formed of small intestine. This pouch provides
a storage place for stool in the absence of the large intestine. Anal
sphincter muscles assist in holding in the stool. Several times a day,
stool is passed through the anus." I'd seek a second opinion from
another bariatric surgeon/surgical group if I were you.

Yes! I am one. I was the first patient to have the gastric bypass procedure
performed ( at least in my area). My surgeon had to do a lot of research
first. Nutrition is the biggest concern. What kind of questions do you
have?
