Question:
was your surgery gastric or lapband..
I don't believe from what I have learned that you can do anything about a stretched pouch. My surgeon Dr.John Debarros when in depth with me the side affects and possibilities of a stretched pouch prior to my surgery and I was told it happens most often with the gastric but is a possibility with the lapband also. — aatoton1 (posted on February 10, 2007)

I had gastric bypass 2 years ago . From what I know about lapband is its
just a band thats adjustable and there is no pouch its just your regular
stomach being restricted of intake . So I personally have never heard of
that with lapband its so different from gastric bypass . I will check back
here for other peoples responses since my partner and my sister want to do
the lap band . They are scared of doing gastric , seeing what I still go
through two years later . !

Hi Alena thanks for responding.Yes you are correct the band is much
different then the bypass itself, each have there benefits and backlashes.I
have 4 friends who have had the gastric bypass and I am the only one who
has had the band.At first it was embarrassing because my weight loss was
not so drastic and is still much slower but I am much healthier now and can
see results.
Now as far as the difficulties go I chose the band because I did not want
to have my stomach cut,and my Dr Debarros took his time to help me really
understand the pros and cons of both.I had my first surgery through the
wish center on 7\25\05 and My surgeon was only there to observe due to some
insurance technicalities ,and I ended up having problems ,first my port
popped off and then after a year no weight loss and it turned out there was
a hole in my band so on 8\1\06 I had my second surgery and it is much more
successful this time my same surgoeon Dr debarros and his new partner Dr
Orris did that surgery.he wish center closed and dissappeared.tell your sis
and partner i recommend this one highly and my surgeons also.

Hi, speaking as a person who first had the lapband and then the gastic
bypass, yes the band can stretch your pouch. although it really does not
stretch the pouch what it does is stretch your esophgas into its own
stomach to make room for more food. makes you vomit alot. this is why i had
my lapband removed. never felt full with the band until I would get sick
because of the stretched windpipe, not good.
Hope this helped
