Question:
Can powdered vitamins AND protein drinks be taken in hot water?
It's cold here now and I enjoy drinking my daily water hot and in a mug throughout the day...I have found that my vitamins dissolve better in warm water and my whey shakes even taste good warmed. I'm just worry about NOT getting all of the nutrients due to the heat?!? Tirana Trish — zoeysgrami (posted on January 31, 2007)

Hi, I dont about the vitamins but I just seen on the web site for UNJURY
Protein shakes can be mixed in cold or warm liquids, but not hot... they
gave a temp, but I don't remember 130 degrees I think. Go to
www.unjury.com to see for sure. Good luck

Hi Tirana,
If you call Unjury and talk to them they will explain to you all about the
absorption of protein and what inhibits it and the best way to promote
absorption. They are very friendly and patient. I think they are a really
good resource. Good Luck!

In hot water, UNJURY proteins will clump.
That is because the proteins are in their original natural
configuration, and heat changes the configuration.
You've seen this happen every time you cook an egg -
the white goes from a clear gel to firm white...
or when you cook a piece of chicken...
We are starting to see some research that says
the proteins in whey, in their natural configuration,
might have special value for healing and immunity,
but there isn't enough research yet to say all this with confidence.
We do see anecdotal results that suggest this might be true.
So to avoid clumping, it is best to stay at 130 degrees F
or below. It is probably easiest to do that with
a meat thermometer. What I did was see how many seconds
it took the office microwave to warm 8 oz. of water
to 130. Now I don't have to use the thermometer each time. :-)
Kind regards
Jerome
