Question:
Has this surgery thrown any of you ladies into early menopause?
I am 39, had WLS 11/1/05, Lost 133 lbs, plastic surgery (TT & Breast Lift) on 10/18/06, everything has been great no complications whatsoever from either surgery. Since the WLS I have had no sex drive at all, was told by my surgeon that it would return, it still has not, went and saw my PCP today and she is leaning towards either early menopause or depression. Personally, I don't feel that it is depression, I feel just wonderful and dont seem depressed. But reading up on menopause, I do seem to have quite a few symptoms, my periods have messed up since surgery, they are super heavy for 3 days and them just stop and they are not consistent, they have been out of whack for 14 months now. Low sex drive, (or should I say NO sex drive), I have had the night sweats recently, (not sure why.. I havent been sick or anything) So they are testing my hormone levels, thyroid , doing a pelvic CT scan.. but I was just curious to know if any of you ladies ended up with early menopause due to the surgery? Thanks for any advice.... — April (posted on January 11, 2007)

hello i had WLS on 7/05 and have lost 230 pounds. The surgery has done
totally opposite for me i'm 32. Most of my life I've never gotten my
period right. I used to only get it like 3 or 4 times a year. I was also
told I didn't ovulate. Now since like Oct of 05 I've gotten my periods
normal every month. I also am now almost three months pregnant. I could
never get pregnant before because I wasn't ovulating. I know that when you
lose alot of weight your hormones go crazy. Sometimes people who had
problems before don't anymore. But i don't know what to say about you.
You should be over that hormonal roller coaster by now. No I've never
heard of anyone going into menopause early due to the surgery. I hope you
get it resolved soon. You take care. Jeannie

Every since I gain my weight, I've had a low sex drive and no periods. My
docotor at the time thought I could be having early menopause. She said
women in their 20's through their 30's can experience early menopause. She
checked all my blood work and that wasnt it. My new doctor and I think its
because of my weight. I hope after surgery next week and I start to lose
some weight, my sex drive will come back and I can have regular periods.
Just talk with your docotors and take care.

I haven't had a period for years. Had hysterectomy when I was 39. But still
had an ovary. I've never lost sex drive and am 65 yrs old now.

I had surgery at age 48. I was told I would immediately go into menopause.
This hasnt happened yet and I'll be 53 in May.
