Question:
not loosing

I am not loosing weight at only 3 months out. I drink alot of skim milk everyday and nothing else to drink. Could this be the reason why? I probably have 6 8oz cups daily. At 80 calories per cup.    — jengriggs01 (posted on January 15, 2006)

Hi, don't worry. There will be plateaus along your journey. However, you may want to drink water. That is extremely important as far as hydration. Also not drinking 30 minutes before and after your meal is very important. Hang in there!

You are in the early phase of your weight loss journey, and I am sure things will get startee again. However there are some esentials that I would like to touch on. You didn't mention exercise, and this is super important, rou need to assist the incineration of your body fat by walking at least daily for 40 minutes and increasing with time, pus the addition of intensity. Further faster further faster. This will stop your metabolism from slowing down and making it difficult to lose weight. During my weightloss phase I walked at least twice before eating, this helps you to burn fat 50% more efficiently than if you walked after a meal. And of course keep on drinking water as the previous writer said. All the best for 3006 to a new healthy slim new you.

I just went throught the same thing I stopped losing when I hit the 52lb loss mark. Then I started to go to the gym everday for a 30 minute work out and it started to drop off again. I was at a plateau for about a month...scary. I am now over 60lbs lost in about a week and a half of getting back into the exercising. I think you have to give your metabolism a kick in the butt to get it started again. Dont worry it'll keep coming off. Franca

It has got to be so frustrating to hit a plateau like that! I'm still waiting for my surgery, so I'd just like to offer my support and prayers that this breaks soon. At my doctors they keep stressing the importance of getting in protein first (at least 40 grams/day) after surgery, before carbs. Maybe a good lean protein or a protein supplement like isopure (available online and in GNC stores) would help. God bless you.

1 cup of milk = appx 13g sugar. 6x13g = 78g, or 3 Snickers bars. Are you getting ANY protein? Calcium? vitamins? Solid foods? Green leafies, nuts, grains, seeds..... at all? We need to drink 64 of water (as in water) MINIMUM. So, if you drink any caffeine, that is anti-water. So, if you had 1 cup of coffee, you'd need 2 cups of water to count 1 cup of water toward your 64 oz. We tend to run dehydrated, so I suspect you're asking your body to run, to stay helthy & well AND to lose weight while feeding it just candy and nothing it can really USE. It is not "spending", but putting everything into "savings" right now. Be nice to it, give it protein, vitamins, water and some solids (doesn't have to be much) and see if it rewards you by spending some of the riches you provide it!

I would say that your milk intake is way too high. 1 or 2 8oz cups should be plenty. Since my surgery, for some reason, I can't drink alot of water, but I drink a pitcher of crystal light ice tea everyday. I've had no trouble getting the weight off. Give it a try and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Although you are getting your liquds in, milk has more sugar. Try replacing at least some of it with water. Also, you did not say how long you have been not losing - you may just be at a plateau! Your body is catching up to itself . You probably will begin losing again. Just make sure to drink your water, take your vitamins, and get all your protein in.

It sounds like you may be taking in an excess amount of milk sugar and I'd like to suggest the milk I use. It is Carb Countdown by Hood and has 3 grams of milk sugar vs 12 grams in regular milk. It comes in 2% or Skim (fat free) and is sweetened with Splenda. Good luck. I drink two 8 oz glasses a day when I make my protein shakes and it doesn't bother me at all .....I am lactose intolerant!

Jennifer, increasing the frequency, duration, intensity and variety of your workout program can help you get back to losing. Best of luck. Kasey 365/210 (nonop)

Now that you are post-op WLS; you really need to keep water as part of your liquid intake. Water flushes out toxins. You are, even without WLS are suppose to drink at least 64 oz of water each day. You could develop stones in your kidneys just to name one of the negative issues that could develop. Check with your dietician about your post-op diet and vitamin requirements. Exercising also helps to burn extra fat stores, and it is free.

Never mind the SUGAR- think about the empty, non filling calories you're ingesting...You're drinking a full days' worth of calories, pretty much. You should stick to NON CALORIED BEVERAGES 90% of the time. I would say, YES, this is probably one big contributing factor to your lack of weight loss.

Alright I started exercising on my new Gazelle machine and I just bought Carb Countdown milk. I am also drinking more water and less milk. I haven't tried the Carb Countdown yet, I just hope it tastes OK. Thanks for all your suggestions.
