Question:
Question about Medicaid and 5 year medical history.....
I know having a five year medical history is very important to the approval process, but what do you do if you honestly don't have a five year history? I have medical records from back as far as 2003, but before that time I had no insurance, and did not see a doctor for any type of medical treatment or problems. And I found out today that the only records I had from 10 years ago have already been destroyed do to inactivity. I know they want medical stuff but does anyone have any other idea's that might help with the approval process? If anyone has any suggestions what so ever, I'd love to hear them! Thanks in advance for reading this and any suggestions you may have! ~Sabie — Sabie (posted on December 13, 2005)

I had the same problem an the same inc. but I found that they were more
interested with my medical know an they took my word that I had dieted at
home with different diets so I named every diet I could think of. I even
put weight watchers an LA weight loss down I tried LA but couldn't afford
to continue with it. They don't check the diets but they do want your Dr to
push for it for you so make sure he/she writes a really good letter. good
luck hope this helped.

I thought the same way.... In all true honesty, they really want to know
what you know. The more info can can give about your weight loss attempts
and failures the better. They are also looking into medical history so they
know what they are facing while you are on the surgery table. It is a lot
of work and honesty. If I were you, I would type up as much info as you
can, try to recall any family medical history. That is really all they
want. Good Luck !!!!!!

What I did was submitted a journal with time frames of the diets I tried
and the amount of weight I lost and gained back. As long as you can
substantiate that you have made attempts at weight loss and that this a
last resort rather than a first attempt at losing weight, they usually will
accept your word for it.
I truly hope this helps.

Hi Sabie,
Do not believe that I were approve in 3 days with medicaid and I had no 5
years of medical history. It all depend on how your doctor write your
approve letter.

My husband was in the same boat, he had never had insurance before in his
life and he is 46 years old. So he had NO history. But luckily our
insurance finally agreed to pay for the surgery. His current doctor wrote
a letter, and the surgeon did as well. Depending on who your surgeon is
going to be, they know some loop holes, and way to word things, to get the
approval. Good Luck

I was justed approved by medicaid through the state. I has some medical
history but they didn't bother with looking at it. Just make sure you can
dig up all the pro's why the surgery that is best for you. And if you have
went for weight loss help in the last year you should be ok. I was really
worried to but I was approved in just a few days once all my tests were in.

It was always my understanding that your records could be stored on
microfiche. You might want to ask about it. Sorry if that's not helpful.
I just know I've gotten records that way.
