Question:
I AM GETTING READY TO HAVE A BREAST REDUCTION HELP!!!!!!!

I am about to have a reduction on next month and I am scared of what to expect afterwards. What do I do afterward and when can I take a bath and how long will I be in pain.    — SHAKEITHA M. (posted on August 9, 2004)

The pain is hardly there at all. I had more trouble being nausteous from the aneshia that pain. They send you home with pain pills I stopped taking after day one. Your doctor will go over post stuff. BUT taking BATHS was a BIG NO NO.. He allowed 'shower' (quick) after day one but no BATH. I havent asked him when bath starts cause I normally dont take baths; BUT it might be at least two weeks; since Im two weeks post tomorrow and the staples are just coming out today. But Ive been driving with no problem. ONE thing is you have to sleep on your back for 4 WEEKS (thats ruff for me not a back sleeper) other than that.. Ths surgery is a breeze.. you'll do fine.

BR is one of the easiest surgeries to recover from. I had no pain to speak of, the only downside was wearing a bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. But, it's OH SO worth it! I now have tank tops in every color, and I tell everyone that I have the boobs of a 17-year old (I'm 51)! LOL You're gonna love those new babies!

For Helen....staples? There should be no staples used for a BR. Did you maybe have another procedure done at the same time that used staples?

Go here: www.breasthealthonline.org I had a reduction 15 months ago, and this site was a GODSEND. It's a messageboard, and the women there are outstanding. Any question you have regarding reduction, augmentation, cancer, reconstruction, etc, can be answered here. There is also a picture board that you can get access to with a letter faxed from your PS and a small donation. This picture board kept me from freaking out afterwards, because I was able to see pictures of women as they healed, not just the usual before and after shots the PS provides. Good luck to you, you're going to feel so much better when this is done, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner! Denise 316/158; 46II/36G/36C

Hello! I had a breast reduction 4 years ago. My god, it was the best thing I ever did for myself (including weight loss surgery). There was absolutely no pain afterwards that couldn't be handled without plain ole tylenol. The worst thing was that it felt like you had on a real tight bra that you couldn't remove. It was like that for a couple of months. You are going to love your new boobs. Don't fear the surgery, it was the easiest I have ever had and I have had many.

I had BL/BR at the same time as LBL and Inner Thigh Lift. There was almost no pain at all from the BL/BR. My breasts healed faster than anything. Don't worry. You'll love your new boobies!! :)

I am 3 weeks out from a breast lift-reduction tummy tuck. I know this sounds strange but I had no pain, just pressure from being swollen. I had 6 drains when I woke up they are what gave me grief. My doctor has me in a surgical bra for 6 weeks and a binder, these are worn all day. I showered 2 days afterwards. Car rides right after wards are another story you will feel every bump. I absolutely love my new chest. I went from a DDD long to a C everything is where it is suppose to be, I cannot remember the last time the girls looked upwards...I am loving it.

I just had my breast reduction on Wednesday August 4th, so I am only 4 days post-op. My surgery was very late in the evening, so I did have to spend the night in the hospital, but normally you can go home the same day. I woke up after surgery very nauseaed, but they gave me a shot that took the nausea away, and I was sent home with drains. On Friday my two day post-op visit, the ps took my drains out, and told me that my nipples were pink and look good. I had a "free nipple graph" he had to remove the entire nipple and move it. I was sent home wearing a wrap, not a surgical bra, but on Friday he told me that I could start wearing a sport type bra and I bought a Bestform from Walmart. I wear the bra during the day, and wrap my girls at night, but you have to wear support 24/7. I was allowed to shower the next day, so Saturday morning it felt great taking a shower, I just held my arm sorta over the nipples so the water did not just hit on them, but did flow over them. I was sent home with Demoral, and did take it the first day, but have been using xtra strength tyernal since, and it is handling the pain fine. The incisions are sore, there is brusing, but it is not that bad. Best of all the weight is already off my back, and my shoulder blades are not hurting, and my girls are brused but perky.

someone asked about my staples. I only had the breast reduction. BUT the doctor removed ALL the love handle skin I had on my side of my body - he did use some saples in my under arm area. but for the breast part was some stitches which he removed. also..

I had zero pain from breast reduction surgery. I did not feel a thing and did not need any pain meds. I will never miss those big old things that hung down to my waist. I went from a double D to a B and just love buying bras with two hooks instead of the ugly contraptions with 4 hooks. And I certainly don't miss pulling up the bra straps every 5 minutes. I don't care if big boobs are in, I'll take the small ones over the big floppy ones anyday. You'll never regret having this surgery and as I said, I felt practically nothing afterwards, except relief!!!
