Question:
Can anyone give me their interpretation of this insurance rule?
Here is what my policy says- OBESITY Not covered unless authorized by the medical plan due to existence of comorbidity and morbid obesity. I interpret that if I am morbid and have comorbs that I would then qualify. Is this how others interpret this and did anyone elses policy say this? — CARLA C. (posted on September 26, 2003)

SOunds like it to me. Not covered UNLESS authorized means it would ber
covered if you were morbidly obese and had co morbidities. Go for
it!!!!!!!! Wishing you all the best.

Yes, it seems to be saying you have to be morbidly obese (as opposed to
just "obese") WITH co-morbidity(s). The big question would be -
what do they consider a qualifying co-morbidity? My insurance company
requires morbid obesity and a co-morbidity of at least one of these:
coronary heart disease, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea or hypertension.
Good luck.

That's what my policy stated as well. Once the pre-determination was
submited that supported the MO and comorbidities, the insurance company has
been extremely helpful.

I 'interpret it as "obesity" is covered 'with comorbidity and
morbid obesity is covered. JMHO.
