Carla, there are a few sites just for lapbanders that I am sure would be able to answer your question. One is on yahoo-bandsters and the other is on spotlighthealth.com

Supposedly there are new long term studies that have just come out of Europe that go back about 20 years. You should see if you can find that research so you can see the results 15-20 years after banding. From what I have read they were not promising results.

All that matters is your opinion on it as you will have to live with whichever surgery you choose for the rest of your life. I do know of a couple of SMO women that have had the lap band and lost over 100 lbs. Typically their weight loss is a lot slower than an RNY or DS but for them it is working and that's all that matters. They felt they could live with the requirements of the AGB than the others.

There is a Yahoo group called ExtraordinaryBandsters who all started with higher BMIs. You also might check the Yahoo Group called SmartBandsters.
Malcolm has lost over 280 pounds with his lap band. His website is www.lapbandtransformation.com He might be able to put you in touch with other high BMI Bandsters.
There are no 20 year studies on the band because it wasn't around at that time. Perhaps the poster is thinking of vertical banded gastroplasty, which is NOT adjustable gastric banding.
There are links to other lap band support groups on my profile. Just click my name on this post or feel free to email me.

There are a lot of people who lose more than 100 pounds. Many of them do it around 1 year out, some do it in less time (like 6-9 months). Check out the links in T F's profile. You will find a wealth of information there. Happy researching!!
