Question:
Has anyone been approved with a bmi less than 40 with sleep apnea as a significant
comorbid? Is so, what was the conditions or criteria for obstructive sleep apnea? — CINDY D. (posted on August 11, 2003)

I had a BMI of 40 and sleep apnea and was approved. I had to have a sleep
study, when the report said that I had sleep apnea the doctor sent it in to
the insurance and I was approved first try.

Yes, my BMI was like 39.6, something like that and I had sleep apnea, but
also had severe acid reflux and elevated blood pressure. I no longer have
any of my co-morbities. Read my profile if you would like more info. Lap

My BMI was 39 and co-morbidities were depression, joint pain, reflux, and
stress incontinence (I didn't even now that peeing on yourself when
coughing or laughing was a co-morbid until 1st visit w/ surgeon.) I was
approved with no problems. I had not been treated by a doctor for reflux
or joint pain. I was just using over the counter meds. I know I am very
lucky. Open RNY 7-2-03 260lbs 222lbs today

I believe my BMI was 36, something when I was quickly approved (same day
according to my authorization) by Kaiser. I had Apnea (13), Borderline
Diabetes, increased cholesterol (288), and increased triglycerides. I also
have a disk missing from my lower back and another that was bulging. My
knees were also bad.

Well it probably depends on how much your BMI actually is, I am pretty sure
it would have to be over 35 still, and yes sleep apnea is a serious
co-morb!
