Question:
Who at the Department of Insurance should I file a complaint about my appeal and
regarding my health carrier? I have 3 recommendations and they still are denying coverage for this surgery. I need to take every avenue possible. — CINDY D. (posted on July 14, 2003)

Each state has a web page - go to Google and type the name of your state
and "insurance comissioner" and they will have info about how to
file a claim.

Cindy - I work in the insurance department for a doctors office. Actually
our doctor, Dr. Cook is a bariatric surgeon. Any way, your state most
likely has a website that you can go on to find out what your options are
about filing a complaint. I live in NC and ours is www.ncdoi.com. But there
should be information to lead you to who you need to file a complaint with.
I don't know about in AL but in NC our insurance commishioner is very
pro-active. Hope this helps, good luck!

This is a very simple question to answer. You can go online and type:
Florida (or state inwhich you live) Insurance Commission. An address or
telephone number will pop up on the screen. I recommend that you call your
state's Insurance Commission and they will give you step by step process on
how to use their services.
After my denial, I contacted my state's insurance commission and they told
me to appeal my insurance decision and if my insurance company still denies
my surgery, I need to call the commissioner back and they will get
involved.
I told the insurance company that I would get the Insurance Commission
involved if they denied me again..... next day I was APPROVED. Who knows
if this threat helped to overturn my decision but I'm sure it didn't hurt.
Good Luck!
