Question:
I would like to hear from anyone who is covered through BC/BS of AL PPO with
obstructive sleep apnea and BMI less than 40. Were you covered or not. They are trying to give me the run around after my 2nd appeal. — CINDY D. (posted on June 27, 2003)

Hello, I have the same insurance. My bmi was 39.9. I also had
co-morbs-insulin resistant,PCOS,arthritis. I also mentioned that Diabetes
runs in my extended family, with hip and knee replacement surgeries. Don't
know if that last part helped or not. But I told them that my fear was that
I would end up 300-400 lbs, looking at being medicated for Diabetes and hip
and knee replacement surgery. Hope that this helps you out. Good luck on
your journey :-)

I have BC/BS AL PPO. I had a BMI of 42 and had no problem whatsoever
getting approval. My benefits book does say they will approve with a BMI
less than 40 if you have co-morbities. BUT, I have to tell you I live in
Maryland. Maryland has an "obesity law". I don't think they have
much choice but to cover the procedure. It may be different for people
living in other states.Sleep Apnea is one of the co-morbidties they have
listed.Don't give up.
