Green onions, fried onions with mushrooms, I love them all. Freshly sliced in a salad YUM! I like garlic too although sometimes jen complains if I eat it raw. She says I stink:( Spices should be no problem, but it took about a month before I ate them.

I eat onions all the time. I didn't start eating them raw until I was six weeks post-op. I ate Wendy's chili at two and a half weeks out with no problem. I don't have trouble with any spices. I eat salsa all the time.

I love onions both pre and post op. As far as spices, I can not get enough spicy food. Spices are so much better now. Funny as I thought they would'nt be post op.

I actually crave and enjoy more spicy things since surgery, and onions are not a problem at all... as long as raw ones are chewed well... I never liked hot foods before, but now I don't get heartburn or reflux like before surgery so I do more hot foods! I can actually enjoy them again.

Hi there, Tammy! I haven't had any trouble with onions or spices since surgey. One thing that is strange is that I can tolerate spicer foods post-op. Before surgery, I could only eat a mild salsa, now I can have a medium. I know that isn't a drastic change, but if you ask my husband and niece, it's a miracle! Vi open RNY 9/23/02 down 80 lbs.

Onion Soup has been great for me in a restaurant. Then I east an appetizer (really part of one) like shrimp cocktail. I can usually do 3-4 shrimp. The melted cheese on top of the soup is good protein too. LAP-RNY October 8, 2002, down 60.

Hi. I'm 8 months out and have had no problems with onions on anything. I love spicy foods! The only problem I have encountered is with garlic. I loved garlic pre-op but it has a gagging effect on me now. I can have it in very small doses but nothing compared to pre-op amounts.

Hey Tammy--I love onions and eat them in my food all the time! As for spices--I've always had problems with real spicy food---very sensitive stomach lining....I avoid hot sauces, etc cos it actually burns/cuts my skin--ouch!

Tammy, Onions are my favorite. I usually cook them up in the pan, with a little non stick spray and scramble eggs.... They are the best.... I how-ever cannot tollerate anything hot, such as hot sauce, my pre-op favorite Thai food, or anything spicy. Gosh even mustard on a Subway sandwich is hot to my little taste buds now..... But onions are the best, and the only little spice I can get.. Post op 7 months down 103 pounds, (40 pounds to goal)

Wow, I seem to be in the minority here. 7 1/2 months post op and I can't eat onions. If I take a bite of something with an onion in it I have to spit it out. Don't know why, but they aren't working for me.

I'm almost 9 months post-op and have been eating spices for some time now. In fact, since surgery, I've found that I actually crave more flavorful food.

Six days after surgery I had two bites of a Wendys spicy chicken sandwich. Spices and onions have never caused a problem. I find I crave salt and have since the very beginning.
