Question:
When are you able to drink more than 1to 2 oz of water every 30 minutes?
I am 4 weeks post op and lost 41 lbs. I see postings that people can drink glasses of water before work. I could barely get down 2 oz when does this change? How many weeks? — NANCY C. (posted on September 11, 2002)

We were supposed to be doing 1 oz every 5 min. I wasn't quite that fast,
either. But something was slightly amiss with my stoma. Once fixed, I
drank like a normal person, just a bit slower. Does it hurt? Or just hang
up?

I felt the same way, but I am now at 5 weeks and all of a sudden I can
drink more at a time. It seems to help if I use a straw (less air for me).
Before, I felt like a culligan water bottle, if I drank too much, I felt
like it "gurgled" down. Once the swelling goes down, it will be
much easier. Good Luck!

at about six weeks I could suddenly drink a lot more water. Am doing about
16 ounces every two or three hours now. It's sooo nice!

I can do this now and have been since a week post-op....espically when i am
out walking. I can drink 24oz of water in a half hour while walking.

At four weeks I could drink about 16 ounces in an hour. Maybe even more.
Now, at seven months I drink 48 ounces of water in about two hours before
work each morning. Sometimes I can drink faster (like after a jog when I
can down 12 ounces in about 5 minutes), sometimes slower...like that 24
ounce bottle I start every day around 2:00, but never seem to finish before
I leave work at 5:00 (maybe that's just b/c I too busy, so I try to finish
it on the way home).

Try using a straw...it makes it a lot easier to handle. I found that I
could drink it better if it was filtered(use a Brita picther) and over ice.
I can practically guzzle water now...I'm also 16 months post-op. But
during the early days, the straw was the key.
