Question:
Has anyone ever been able to RENT a lift chair for a few months after
surgery? I need one for about 6 weeks or 2 months and hate to buy one as they are expensive. Thanks Pheebs — BOOMASMOM (posted on November 28, 2001)

Hi Phoebe--- I really don't think you'll need one. It's good to move
around and use those muscles anyway. You'll have pain meds if you really
need them, but I only took them in the am & pm for 2 days, then just at
night for two more days. I had open surgery, so it was pretty invasive. I
did fine & I think you will too! If you have money to burn, hire a
housekeeper for a couple months :>). That's something that will really
help you out! All the best to you!

I looked into renting one and found it was almost cheaper to buy the chair.
So I bought it and the weight limit on it was 250 but i weighed 150 pounds
more and it held up great! I tried for 2 days to get in and out of my old
recliner and it hurt so bad I just couldnt deal with it, which is why we
bought a lift chair.

I rented a lift chair. I found a small family owned medical equipment shop
and rented a used one for $50 for a month. It wasn't very roomy tho and I
would up only sitting in it for a few days and I never slept in it. It
turned out to be a waste of money for me, but it DID give me peace of mind
before the surgery.....helped allay my fears about getting in and out of a
chair....so maybe that peace of mind was worth $50. *shrug* Do whatever
feels best for you. Best wishes and Godspeed!
