Question:
Please help!!!!
Can you guys give me some breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas that have alot of protein. I have tried every protein bar and shake. I cannot drink or eat them without gagging. I would like to get my protein just from my food. Please help. Any ideas or menus would really be appreciated. I am 3 months out from RNY surgery. Thanks. — cuppaloopy (posted on March 30, 2010)

4 months out and still having problems with eating. not because i cant but
because im not hungry. the buttermilk is saving me right now cuz i cant do
the shakes or protine bars. good luck to you!

I also hate shakes, but I tried the new kellogs protein shakes strawberry
& french vanilla they also have chocolate but haven't tried that one.
Each contains 10 protein and 5 fiber. I have one for breakfast everyday and
they realy are good and I usually have another one as my night time snack.
I can believe they are soooo good because I have tried many over the last 2
1/2 years since my surgery.
They come in a 4 pack of plastic bottles and are cheapest $5.86 at the
Walmart let me know if you try and like them.

You have never answered my question..do you see a NUT? did your dr give you
a diet plan to follow? Yet ..you ask the very same question...and get
angryy with us that ask you if you have any of theses visit. NO one here
wants to see you fail..but you answer us when we ask question snappy... if
you ask a guestion..be ready..even if YOU dont like the answer.
Please..remember to follow YOUR DR & NUTS advise. Other wise yu may
have trbl..NONE of us here saw your surgery..nor really know what the DR
has told you to do. I have seen many different Drs have the path for their
patients THEY want them to follow. Please.. try to attend a group as you
may find samples and meals you JUST might like. Again, wish you well...

To Erica and Julia, if you can't say something helpful rather than what you
have said on this Q & A, then it may be time for you guys to leave the
answers to those of us who are on here to help, not to be condesending and
rude. I personally get tired of reading your remarks and I do not ask
questions. So, I can only image how the people out there that simply need
a little listening and a little help. Sometimes it is right to recommend
they contact their dr. but sometimes it is best to just answer their
question, plain and simple.

RE: tone... I think it's helpful to remember that even though you're
writing to one person, many other people read the responses. Lots of
newbies lurk on the Q & A board, for example (I know I did). If you're
feeling like one person doesn't "get it," maybe focus on the
others who really appreciate the help... and hope your answer is good for
them. I think we folks on OH could stand to raise our positivity level. I
upped my positivity, up yours!! (ha ha)

free Lactose free Milk (8oz) 10 grams of protein, 1 scoop of vanilla
protein powder 23 grams of protein (read label they all have different
amounts of protein per scoop), and Ice. I mix in blender then put in
shaker cup w/ more ice. Can also use frozen strawberries, banana's... just
use your imagine with the carnation istant breakfast and vanilla protein
powder. I also eat eggs, low fat string cheese, reduced fat peanut butter
on reduced fat crackers. Hope some of these things help :)

I found that seafood seems to have high protein and low calories, tho I
know you are not concerned with calories right now. but shrimp and scallops
and even fish are good sources of protein, but shrimp is high in
cholesterol too , so watch out with shrimp

Unjury unflavored powder. I use it in my yougurt (Greek 16gms of protein)
my eggs, my oatmeal, cream of wheat etc...etc...etc. It bumps you up 20
grams of protein with each scoop. Good luck

I do the same as Debbie with the carnation instant BKST and skim milk with
2 scoops of beneprotein, and I always add a fruit, this will give half of
the days recommendation. I hate the whey protein shakes, they taste
terrible. I also eat egg beaters or an egg with oscar meyer microwavable
bacon or canadian bacon. This is only 1-2 times a week as I am very busy in
the am and need something quick. Plus I never was a BKST person so the
smoothie goes well. Don't bother with a cook book on weight loss surgery as
the dishes are gross and things you probably won't eat. Just google and you
will get many sites to go to for free advice. Eat Chili with beef or turkey
and lots of beans. I also find steak and beef roast go down better than
chicken or turkey. Salmon fillets by Gortons is really good and quick to
make. Don't listen to the negatives, if they are unhappy that is to bad.
This is a time to start new so they need to check themselves before giving
advice. Yes I am a newbie and have read many comments so when I ask a
question I hope people only answer if they are willing to help not bark out
an order!

For breakfast I take a yogurt and add Grape nuts to it. The yogurt softens
the grape nuts in a few minutes and makes it easy to eat. It's high in
protein and in fiber. Also I found dry roasted endamame (green soybeans)
are a great high protein snack. Only 1/4 cup has 14g of protein and they
make you thirsty and want to drink lots of fluids. I hope this helps.
