Question:
Are there any support groups on line to help family members after our surgery?

My husband is afraid to eat anything in front of me. He does not want to hurt my feelings. He also wanted to know if afterwards it is ok for him to order pizza and take me out to dinner. I explained to him his life does not stop and I am the one who makes the choice what goes into my body before the surgery and after. I was just wondering if there is anything out there to help our mates and family have an understanding.?    — oxbumblebeaxo (posted on August 16, 2009)

At the weight loss clinic I am involved with (RNY 2 June 2009) they have a monthly support meeting with speakers each month. The family member go there with the pre and post op patients and are quite active within the group and ask as many and more questions as the patients.....this might the best place to start. Hope this helps, Karen

As far as eating out, once you get past the first three months, there is always something everywhere a wls, person can eat. My husband and I go out at least once a week. He knows sometimes, I may have to get the keys and go on to the car, and he's okay with that. He usually eats his and part of mine. But we keep the house pretty much junk free and as a result after two years post op, he has lost about 20 lbs himself. He still has his pizza, and I have a chicken wing or a salad with him. You will work thru all this as time goes by. And like the other poster said the support groups in your area are great for you both! Good luck and congrats on beginning your journey to a healthier new you!

Hi, I have found that the monthly meetings in my area are tons of help for me as well as my family! There is always something on a menu you can order..we just dont eat it all. I am unable to fix any kind of seafood at home (have a family member allergic) so I take advantage of going out to get my seafood. My grandkids luv pizza..so I get pizza and have the cheese topping..no crust. You dont eat as much as before but a VERY tiny amount..sometimes just a bite is enough to fill me. The other part of this is ...some of the verythings you really liked before may not be on your list anymore. Your tastes will change. I fix everything that my family likes to eat..even have all the holidays at my house (Grannys) The kids all learned that I would eat what I can..if I can..and I have had many issues with my RNY..but lost 130lbs in 13 months. Find a meeting the family may attend with you and they will learn so much more than you thing. I wish you well.
