RNY stands for Roux-en-Y which is a "type" of gastic bypass
surgery.

In quick terms...Medial is a cut in the intestines that stops absorption of
fats and nutrients. Your intestines are about 25 feet long....The
proximal is the most common RNY GB procedure...It is the closest cut to the
stomach nd has the least malabsorption... Next is the Medial Cut where
there is even more malabsorption and next the distal where ther eis
significant malabsorption...after that is the DS where malabsorption is
greatest but they can/must eat much more...These are all GB
procedures...The most common GB procedure is RNY...and that is usually
Proximal...but you will have to find out for certain which one is best for
you. Many docs will not go more than proximal...Malabsorption can lead to
very serious complications...You will have to do your own research and
learn about these very complex surgeries...I couldn't begin to explain
them!
