no no no- unless you open the can/bottle and let it sit a few hours to get
rid of the carbination. no sodas any time- those who drink them usually do
it on their own knowingits not on their protocol. you wont belch like u
want if you get rid of the carbination, sorry cindi 3.24.04 -230 lbs

I was told no carbonation and if i did drink soda...way down the line for
it to be flat cause the carbonation would either stretch my pouch or make
me very uncomfortable..so i wouldnt advice drinking ginger ale this early
but thats my personal opinion.

Don't do it. Try Gas-X strips or Maalox plus- it has simethicone to break
up the bubbles. If you add bubbles, you are just going to feel worse and
it is against the rules. You don't want to start breaking them already.
Walk alot, drink your fluids and day by day you'll get a little better.
Best of luck,

DEFINITELY NOT!! You won't have "one good belch". More likely
you'll have many hours of pain and a possible trip back to the hospital.
You need to start thinking differently about how your pouch (you don't have
a working stomach in the true sense of the word anymore) works. Carbonated
stuff is OUT. The gas you feel is normal. Talk to your doctor about
getting you something to make you feel more comfortable. At this stage you
shouldn't be putting anything in your pouch that your doctor hasn't ok'd.
Those staples you have inside are only so strong you know. Congratulations
on making a choice to get healthy and welcome to the Loser's Bench!

I have heard that even if you let a carbonated drink sit and go flat that
the heat from your body once ingested will bring on more cabnation! Kind
of wakes it up! I would not do it!

Carbonation can't hurt you-- the bubbles aren't strong enough unless your
body forgets how to blech or pass gas. However, drinking soda this soon
after surgery will cause you significant discomfort. Plus, it can give you
a false sense of fullness and will, therefore, discourage you from staying
propery hydrated. So, even though the danger of soda causing your pouch to
explode is a myth, it would not be a wise choice.

You'd regret it. It's very painful and doesn't make you belch that soon
after surgery...it'd be like a belch stuck in your throat/stomach and hurt
quite a bit. Not bloated feeling...just a painful air bubble stuck....

The gas is not in your intestinal track. It is in your abdomen. The soda
which is against the rules will only release what is in the intestinal
track. I am about 2.5 weeks out and I started burping and farting on day
4, so you will be there soon. It took me about 10 days to really feel like
most of the gas is gone. You went through a lot and this is a major
surgery. Don't screw it up, take some pain medicine and just wait it out.

Oh No! Don't do it, I tried after 4 weeks post-op RNY to let a Diet Dr
Pepper go flat, I didn't wait long enough and boy did it cause PAIN. I
learned the hard way.
