Hi Michael, guess that depends on the type of surgery you will have. I have the lap band. I was hospitalized for 28 hours and then home for a couple of days then back to work without incident. Best of Luck! Mary-Anne

Hey Michael and best of luck to your new life!! I had my lapband on 10/17/08 and was back at my desk job on 10/22/08. I do suggest wearing very loose and comfy clothes and be prepared to tire out easily but other than that just take it easy and dont over do and you should be fine.

Good Luck on your new life, I see you are from MI, me too. Like mentioned before depends on what you are having done and what kind of work you do. I would plan on at least a couple weeks, you don't want to rush things.

I had RNY Oct 9, 08 and was back to work Oct 21. From the 21th-24th I worked 1/2 days because I did get tired and needed to rest. The next week was back to regular schedule. Just no lifting anything. I had plenty of sick leave and vacation to stay out 3-6 weeks if needed but was going bonkers at home.

There's really no straight answer for that. Everyone is different. It depends on which surgery you had, whether it was open or laparoscopic, if you have complications or not, and how physical your job is. Some people have lap RNY and go back to work within 2 weeks, others 4 weeks and then I know of a girl who had the Lap Band, had some complications and was out of work for 5 1/2 weeks. Your surgeon could probably give you a good guesstimate though based on how he plans to do the surgery (open or lap) and the recovery period he usually sees with his other patients. Good luck! I had my surgey on a Thursday got out of the hospital on Saturday and I went back on the following Tuesday, But it all depends on you and have you are able to handle it.

Depends on your overall health and which type of surgery you have. Also, how much time is your surgeon willing to give you off? I had LapBand and open hernia repair with an 8" incision and my surgeon only gave me 9 days off. I was a little weak and tired and still pretty uncomfortable... but sucked it up and made it through. With RNY, people are usually a little more weak and tired as there is the addition of a very restricted diet with the malabsorption issue. Lots of variables. Best of luck, Dawn Vickers

I returned to work 20 days after surgery with no problems at all. I could have returned sooner but my energy level was low but has increased over time considerably.

I am 7 1/2 weeks out from a lap rny. I returned to work after 2 weeks. I found that I was pretty tired by the end of the day for the next 2 weeks but have been fine since.
