Question:
Where can I find a Lap band menu plan?
Because Failing to plan is planning to fail. — Cathy Page (posted on October 12, 2008)

Dear Cathy, I had/have the same confusion. Had a Lap Band on 11 Sept. 08.
But after 1st-3 wks, I'm kind of left on my own as far as eating plans. I
got a bk from Amazon for about $13 called _Eating Well after Weight Loss
Surgery_ by Levine & Bontempo-Saray. It's pretty good ... for me, I
think the key is to get away from the old Weight Watchers mentality [though
I liked it] & go back to the old counting calorie system. Seems like a
step back but may be the key with WLS. Good luck! -Barbara W. [aka,

Hey there,
Counting calories and going to Weight Watchers is not the answer to losing
weight with the LapBand. You should have been given very specific rules to
follow and a specific nutrition guideline to follow by your surgeon and/or
nutritionist prior to surgery. If not then, at least on the day of
discharge. I have a 3 ring binder full of info from my surgeon so there
were no surprises. I think the only surprise I have had is that this is
going to be a lot of work.
In a nutshell, the beginnings of the rules I were given are:
3 meals, no snacks.
70% protein, 30% veggies at each meal.... eat all the protein first and
move on to the veggies.
No more than 30 gms of carbs per day. (veggies don't count).
Eat until you are satisfied, not full.
At least 64 oz water per day, no carbonated beverages.
No liquids 30 minutes before and after meals.
Vitamins every day.
Exercise at least 10 minutes every day.
Journal all intake.
Emotional work.
Support group.
These are the basics and most important. Of course there are hints and
suggestions that I could go on for pages.
Best of luck to you and congrat on your WLS,

You should of gotten a plan from your surgeon. If you did not I would call
than asap. Each surgeon has there own guidelines spelled out for there
patients. What does the surgeons nutritonist say ? I would call them in the
AM. This is no guess work. I wish you the best of luck...

Your are correct in not planning is setting yourself up to fail. Like the
others have replied, your dietician/nutritioninst should have explained
this all to you before surgery. You don't say how far you are out. I am
only at 1 week. My dietician gave me a great packet to help with my eating
for the rest of my life, including when to eat, how to eat, and what not to
eat. If you do not get a satisfactory answer from your dietician, then let
me know. I would be happy to scan and send you my list. It is my new
tool, besides the band, to help me accomplish this great big undertaking.
PM me if you would like so we can chat about this.

I have all the info on what to eat from my Nutritionist and surgeon but
what I'm looking for is something that will plan the daily meals for me to
actually count out the protein and everything for me. I see menu plans
everywhere but there's nothing for someone that has a Lap band.
I could be lazy but I think it'd be great for those of us that work full
time and have parents/kids to look after. I find it really hard to plan
ahead. I have tuna or salmon for lunch almost every day because it's fast
and easy.
Thank you so much for your help
