Question:
Any support groups near/at Fort Leonard Wood, MO or wanting one???

I live on Fort Leonard Wood and was wondering if there are any support groups here and if not would any of you like to start one. I would be interested to start one. I know it would help me out ALOT. So let me know.    — IamMrsMcDole (posted on October 9, 2008)

Hey there! I am at Fort Irwin CA and we dont have a support group here either. I am in the middle of starting one. The best thing to do is contact ACS and meddac and get them involved in starting one. I tried to start mine by myself but Post command told me due to army regulations it has to be backed by a doctor. Talk to your surgeon as well and see if they can help you with that. I also put in a suggestion for getting more WLS support groups on army bases for the coming up AFAP meeting in NOV. Also you can become a support group leader through obesity help. Click on the support group link and you can sign up for it. As soon as they give me the ok to start one here I am going to take the classes for that. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Take care from one army wife to another :) Kim

Do you belong to the Missouri forum? That would be the place to ask about a support group in your area. Are you having the surgery through the military medical system? if so then they should have some kind of group. i had my surgery at Madigan Army hospital here in WA. Good luck! lisa
