Question:
RNY Surgery - how long does it take for the food to digest?
I would like to know how long does it go from the pouch and through the intestines? how longdoes the food stay in the pouch until it moves down to the intestines?? thanks — halahmad (posted on September 15, 2008)

Definitiely a question for your surgeon; he should know the answer, or may
be your Nutritonist that you probalby saw before surgery. Don't be afraid
to ask them questions, they are getting paid to take care of you.

Well, a lot depends on this. Some have daily bowel movements, others may
only have one per week. I tend to go several days without one, then have
two days in a row. If you drink too soon after eating, it tends to flush
the food from the pouch too soon. "Slider" foods which are high
moisture or high fat empties much faster than drier, leaner meats, and
sugar or foods that shock the pouch may cause "dumping syndrome"
and off you go to new experiences on the porcelain throne. Good advice to
discuss this with your surgeons office. Hope this helps a little. Dusty
