Question:
Vaginal irritation since Gastric Bypass

This is a question for the females. Have anyone experienced vaginal irritation after Gastric Bypass surgery? I am six weeks post-op and have been experiencing dryness sometimes and moisture other times. Is this normal? Thanks in advance for your help!    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on August 30, 2008)

I will be 5 months post-op on the 3rd. I thought I had a bad yeast infection. It is still there after treatment. I thought it might be dryness due to my age, 62...but I have decided it may be something, maybe another infection due to the change in hormones since surgery. What ever it is...it is very irritating, very drying causin swelling and great irritation....more so than any yeast infection I have ever had and has a nasty odor. I plan to see my PCP about it soon.

Girl talk! Guys take a hike! Now. I think the PH balance changes in your body after WLS. We were on a lot of antibiotics during surgery. Some of the symptoms you mentioned could even be caused by hormonal changes. I had some of the problems you mentioned, early on, in my post op journey. I had to take more antibiotics for several UTI's that I had, caused by not drinking enough water. That also caused irritation, and discomfort in that area as well. Yogurt and lowfat buttermilk (if you like it) can help for Yeast. (Both good protein sources) Also, I started using baby wipes for #1 and #2, and vagisil cream. You'll clear up. Your body's going thru a roller-coaster of changes. Good luck!

hormones from surgery -- it should clear up on its own :)

Drink lots of liquids and take a good "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA. Will help with vaginal and colon problems. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com

It is most likely due to fluctuating hormones... Since this is something new for you, you need to see your doctor (PCP or GYN) to make sure that you don't have a yeast or bacterial infection. Good luck!
