Read the labels carefully. You have to learn to do this after surgery. Many
protein bars may list a lot of protein, but either high calories or high
carbs may be the price you pay in that particular bar. Find a bar with
reasonable protein, and lowest calories and carbs--one you can tolerate the
taste too. DAVE

They are a little high in Sugar. Read the lables on any packaged foods
before you buy. There are some health bars out there without sugar, but
you got to read carefully.

I only have one in an emergency meal replacement situation. I find Special
K bars are the lowest in sugar and the highest in protein. I have gone
blind reading those bars and that is the one I choose. Also, there is a
slimfast low carb bar. But it is a little harder to find. Good luck

I like the brand called "Pure Protein" in the Blueberry Crumb
Cake flavor. It has 18 grams of protein, 2 grams of sugar. It has a thin
layer of blueberry jam and is coated with white chocolate. Tastes pretty
good!

You will get there...Just keep trying and don't force feed yourself...As
long as you are filling up ( to satisfied, not over full) then you are
doing it right. Eat mostly protein and you'll get all your portien
eventually...Trying to find "magic" protein supps is just not a
"normal" way of living. Meat and cheeses has the BEST most pure
forms of natural protein...Plain and simple...The more dense the protein
the harder it is to eat much...But you will get there! You have to let your
surgery gradually stretch to the point that you can eat like a normal small
person. I can't even understand why people think that they can try to get
60 ounces of protein in a 2 oz pouch so soon...Relax, as long as you are
getting mostly protein in your meals daily...You will get there...Enjoy the
ride...it eventaully ends...Don't force feed yourself...(I'm speaking in
general...not to only you) I hear this worry all the time...and i had the
same worry myself...I didn't eat much at all for a whole year...I caouldn't
tolerate whey or milk...so I was forced to eat meat and used no supps
unless I felt I had to get more protein and then I uses isopure clear carb
free whey...Or Cheramino, to help me get complete proteins from what little
I was eating. I had no health issues til I was LONG some losing weight
and even gained a little...The reason was not protein but vitamins. Take
your vitamins...They are far more important to you health than getting 60
gs of protein a day...(I stopped taking my vits regularly because I was
getting my protein at that point) That "learned"
me...Malnutrition and getting 100 gs of protein daily...HUM? If that isn't
proof that you still need grains and fruits and veggies and VITAMINS...and
protein is not as important as the WHOLE diet, Then I don't know what is.

Take a powerful liquid vitamin/mineral like VEMMA. Go to
www.TrySomeVemma.com Your intake of vit/min is just as important as
protein. Good luck

I am not sure how good these protein bars are. But was told by several
people at my doctor's office ... "No protein bars will 4 months
out". Said they could be too hard on my new stomach. Stick with
protein drinks, yogurts, etc for protein at first.

The South Beach Living meal replacement bars and high protein cereal bars
are better nutritionally. They are low in carbs, high in protein. I
occassionally use them if I am on the run and don't have time to eat a real
meal. However, they do contain a little bit of fat and can take up a lot
of your daily portion of calories, so be careful. It's not something to
eat every day. One thing I do have every day is the Special K2O protein
powder mixed with water. I don't get the pre-mixed water in bottles as it
has more calories and more sugar, but the powder is fantastic. It packs 5
grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber into a mere 30 calories and it helps
just a little to reach your protein goals. Of course, mixing it with water
counts toward your fluid intake as well. And it really tides me over
between meals. Hope this helps.

Some protein bars have a lot of sugar. Some have a sugar alcohols, which
can cause gas/bloat/diarrhea. I think the special k bars have sugar
alcohols. It just takes trial and error to find out how much you can
tolerate of which type. I've found I can handle one Atkins bar a day. Can
handle 1/2 of a zone bar. The kashi crunch bars are good, if one's too
much try 1/2. Clif bars make a snack size which isn't too many carbs, but
they don't have as much protein. good luck!
