Question:
Right-sided pain?
Hi everyone; I saw someone posted a question recently about left-sided pain.. I am having right-sided pain... I had a Revision from stomach stapling to RNY on 02/01/2008. 6 days ago I was at work and started having a sharp pain on my right side, at the bottom of my ribs and in the right shoulder. The pain happened mostly when I would take a breath in...it would be a sharp pain in the right front-side and radiate up to my right shoulder. it lasted about an hour and then, (kind of personal here, but...) I had to go to the bathroom (#2) and after that the pain was gone... Now, today, the pain has started again, the exact same way/place as it was 6 days ago... I do not feel as if I need to go to the bathroom at this time, and will be curious to see if that helps, or not, etc.. By the way, I already had my gall bladder removed 10 years ago. I don't want to call the surgeon's office and bother them over something if it's not anything to worry about, and the surgeon is 2-3 hours drive away from me. Thanks for your help! — Gina S. You migh be trapping air that causes gas and it tends to go to those
certain arae's....the shoulder is a favorite place for gas pains as well as
the lower abdomin (sp)....If you are eating to fast.....drinking thru a
straw you might be swallowing air....and yes...going to the bathroom can
help as well as losing a bit of air at the other end...walking can help as
well as Gas X Strip......if it doesn't get better call your Dr.

If you still continue to have this pain, I am positive the Dr. wants to
hear from you. Better to find out that it is nothing than wait for it to be
a major problem later. Just one persons opinion.

Hi Gina. I have a friend that has the same kind of pains on her right side
and she has pancreas problems. It is always relieved when she goes to the
bathroom. Good luck!!!!

It's possible that what you are feeling is referred pain... pain that
originates in one place but is felt in another... you could be feeling
gas/stool that is getting stuck somewhere in your intestines/bowel. Do you
have any problems with bowel movements or constipation? Small, hard, or
dry stools that are difficult to pass or require straining, regardless of
frequency, can be indicative of constipation. But it could just as easily
be something else... so I think you should call your surgeon. A phone call
takes just a few minutes (regardless of how far away you are) and the only
way to know that its nothing to worry about is to run it by your
doctor--besides, that's what you pay him for. :)
