Question:
Will an upper GI endoscopy make me feel better?
I'm scheduled to go for an endoscopy in two days. Will I finally be able to eat something substantial. I've been living on soft foods since February 4. — oldchevys (posted on May 19, 2008)

Hi, you don't mention what the problem is. Usually they don't do these
after WLS unless you have a stricture. If that is the problem, I had one
and was able to go out to eat afterwards. It was not hard at all. Could you
give us more info?

If you have a stricture then the answer is probably. The endoscopy usually
resolves the issue but not always. Sometimes more drastic measures are
needed. If they go in and find that it is something else, then probably
not. At least you will know what you have going on.

I've had 3 scopes with dilation. The first time, it was like the
floodgates opened. I was able to eat and drink. I took advantage of it!
Two weeks later, I was having issues again and got it stretched the 2nd
time. The third time, about a month later, it was stretched a bit (less
each time). BUT, I didn't feel good and couldn't eat anything other than
liquids and soft foods for the next two weeks. Perhaps the scope irritated
my insides too much. I'm now able to eat regular foods (not all though),
without an issue. I'm supposed to go back 4 months after the last scope
for a follow-up.
