I'm not a doctor. Check with your doctor or nurse. But I have diabetes and get low blood sugars. When I am low, I do eat glucose tablets.

Debbie... I'm a diabetic and thankfully I don't get lows and highs like I used to...but I personally see nothing wrong with keeping glucose tablets with you. They're chewable.... I can't use them but it's a personal choice...they're too sweet and I just can't stand something that sweet...I keep an individual Tropicana Light Apple Juice with me. It has 18 grams of carbs and it's recommended 15 to bring up your BSL if I remember correctly. I just drink a little bit of it unless I'm VERY low. I hit 45 a few times post surgery that was kind of scary. I would check with your doctor though each doctor has different guidelines. -Danielle

I couldn't take glucose of any kind. It made me sick. I would check with your doctor before trying anything. Glucose is sugar and usually dump with sugar.

Hi Debbie I don't have diabetes but my blood sugar goes crazy even after surgery. Unfortunately I also keep them in my purse and have to have one every now and then. My dr. assures me that if i eat protein and not carbs it will help and it does. It is just hard to eat a lot of protein all the time and even sometimes I still get the low blood sugar. Protein won't help once it starts to fall. I had another dr. suggest peanut M&M's. They have just enough sugar to help and they have protein. The only problem is that they are really good so I tend to snack on them even when my blood sugar isn't low. :( Can't win huh? :)

I'd stay away from the glucose tablets... it fixes the problem for a little bit but can make it worse in the long run. You have low blood sugar, you eat sugar, your body releases a bunch of insulin to deal with the sugar you've just eaten, and then you've got low blood sugar again. Instead of glucose tablets, carry some peanut butter crackers. A pack of peanut butter crackers is not that much bigger than a roll of glucose tabs. The cracker part gives you the carbohydrate you need to get your blood sugar back up and the peanut butter helps maintain it. Good luck.
