I, too, had my surgery performed in Monterrey, Mexico, by Dr. Roberto
Rumbaut. I had my surgery 4/18/07. The cost for the laproscopic RNY was
$14,600. This included the surgery, 2 nights n the hospital, all of the
pre-tests, and post care. They put you up in a Hampton Inn, and the cost of
that was about $83/night. The airplane ticket from Phoenix was about
$450.00. You can read more about Dr. Rumbaut and the experience at
http://www.gastricband.com/.
The care and service were outstanding. The hospital room was private, and
included a pull-out couch in case anyone was coming with me, but I did end
up going alone. Dr. Rumbaut is one of the pioneering RNY surgeons, and he
and his entire staff made themselves available to all of the patients 24
hours a day. They hooked me up with a company that financed my surgery: I'm
still paying that off. As of today I'm down about 128 lbs. from my
pre-surgery diet weight. I have access to a nutritionist via email, and the
responses are timely and easily understood. There were some small
communication problems with the night nursing staff at the hospital, but
the doctor's office supplies their patients with English to Spanish
translations of the most commonly asked questions by both the nurses and
the patients. Transportation between the hospital and the hotel was
provided in the cost of the surgery. I was met at the airport by someone
holding a sign with my name on it, and that transportation (from the
airport, to the doctor's office for pre-tests, and then to the hotel) was
also included.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, or just to chat :) I would do
the surgery there again in a heartbeat.
Best of luck!
