Question:
left and right side annoying HIP&SIDE ACHE after eating/drinking slowly/small amount
My sides hurt a bit after even a tiny bit of food or water someimes, its like i feel like i need to massage my hips. I am in my 6th week post op. I had a glass of diet coke at the pub today could that be the problem? I drank it over a hour though. From Katie in Australia. — AussieKatie (posted on January 21, 2008)

I am 3 years out and still cant really drink diet coke. I can do Diet
Mountain Dew but that is about it. Coke is just to bubbly.

some patients have difficulty with fluids, especially colder fluids. Most
patients I know drink water at room temperature or slightly chilled, and
not on ice. Soda's should not be a part of your routine past surgery, as a
general practice. Having surgery so soon after surgery may be the problem.
I'm 1 1/2 years out and I can drink soda's slowly, but do not have more
than a couple per week. Some people cannot tolerate them at all, as it
gives them severe gas, and possible stomach or other pains.

Um, yes, I would guess the coke is the culprit, and so soon after surgery?
The carbonation just sends me into severe stomach/intentinal pain and I'm
1-1/2 years out. I can't imagine at 6 weeks. You will also get some pain
from just general eating/drinking sometimes especially if you eat something
quickly, gulp air or eat something hard to digest.

My Doctor says absolutely no carbonation. This is not user friendly to the
insides of your recent surgery.

That Coke just has too much gas. I drank a Diet 7 Up and after a bout 4 oz
I though I would die. It effects all of us differently, but I had a lot of
pain for many hours.
