Question:
hair loss and chemical relaxers?

Hi! so I'm sure I'm not the first person to be losing their hair and all is well and good but my hair looks seriously awful, it needs to be relaxed but I'm afraid it'll fall out anyone tried it yet? thanks    — kickstyle (posted on August 29, 2007)

Hi Keesha, I'm 3 mos. out RNY, and I've had my hair relaxed twice so far with no complications. Are you getting your protein and water in? I know that's the #1 question folks are gonna ask, but it is key. Do you have a good beautician? Ask her about getting protein treatments on your hair. I got them a few times b/f surgery b/c my hair would shed really bad and they helped trememdously. Any stylist would know if you asked them.

Keesha, a relaxer should not cause shedding any worse than it already is. I'm 5 1/2 months post-op and I've had several relaxers. I have experienced some hair loss but the relaxer hasn't made it any worse....if anything, I've experienced more shedding when it's time for my relaxer. Make sure you get your protein in and I was told by my nutritionist to take 5mg of biotin each day. GOOD LUCK !!!

Protein, Protein, Protein is the key. Biotin is good as well. I am 10 months post op and my hair did shed a little. I have gotten several relaxers since and have had no major problems. Nexxus makes a produce called Emergencee you can purchase it at any CVS, Eckerds, and Walmart also purchase the shampoo and conditioner as well. Try this product a week before you get your relaxer and see how this works. Just read the directions on how to use. I left the Emergencee on longer than the directions said. My beautician told me about this product and it costs about $14 for a small bottle, the shampoo is about $10 and the conditioner is about $15 but it money well spent. Let me know how you like it. I use it everytime I was my hair. Brenda
