Question:
PROTEIN I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING I LIKE
Iam 10 days post op and have tired several protein smoothie/drink recipes and i really don't like any. I don't know if it is because im not hungry or what. i use any whey protein and i also have nectar in twisted cherry, claim to be tastless/smellless, but i sure can taste and smell them. Does anyone know of any other protein that is actually good!!! Thanks — Tiffany D. (posted on June 2, 2007)

If u love chocolate, try Slimfast low carb chocolate mixed with Body
Fortress 100% Premium Whey Protein Powder. I also add a packet of chocolate
CIB. It' tastes like a thick, rich chocolate shake & it's a total of
44g of protein...Eve

Anywhey tasteless protein powder can be bought at GNC. There is very
little taste to it and you can add it to baking later.

My doc told me to stay away from slimfast. Too many carsbs. I have tried
the New Whey protein drink and the bio protein powder from from supplement
stores. Try to stay under 5 g carbs and as many proteins as possible. cj

I love chocolate or vanilla unjury. This can only be ordered online at
www.unjury.com. I add one scoop to 4 ounces of 2% milk which is 20 grams
of protein. The chocolate tastes like a rich chocolate milk and I tell
people that the vanilla tastes like yellow cake batter. I didn't like my
protein shakes very much when I first started them post-op, but they have
definitely gotten better with time and now I think they taste excellent. I
highly recommend unjury for taste!

I strongly suggest Micellar Milk. The strawberry tastes just like
Strawberry Milk (not quite so sweet), and definitely does not have that
protein-y taste. I am VERY sensitive to the taste/smell of protein, so
trust me on this.
You can order sample packs through http://www.bariatriceating.com

Tiffany, thanks for your question. I could not stand any protein drinks
that I tried early on. I figure God gave us food to eat, and I will eat
the food God has given me, so I worked hard to get my protein in by foods.
However, in recent weeks, I have found a protein powder that is pretty much
tasteless (it has a small creamy taste to it), it has NO aftertaste and
very easy to tolerate. I add it to my oatmeal or yogurt and stir it in,
and it works really well for me. I found this powder at
http://store.bariatriceating.com/proteinpowders1.html
See if that doesn't help you. I found it very helpful to me. Take care.

I personally like Shaklee protein powder. It's soy based, but I prefer it.
It mixes well with all kinds of things, esp. frozen fruit and milk to make
a "shake". The only problem is you can't find it in stores, only
from indiv. dealers. You could probably look up Shaklee products on line
and fine someone in your area who sells it.

I went through the same thing-have you tried the Optimum Nutrition, Gold
Standand 100% Instantized Whey? They carry it in powder form at Food 4
Less-the strawberry, chocolate and vanilla are awesome-do NOT smell-and
taste like you are drinking a flavored milk or shake. I add 4 oz of milk
instead of the 8, but I had tried about 15 different types and I have
stayed with this since the first shake. They have 2# tubs-makes about 30
shakes or 5# tubs that make 70-80 shakes. They range from $14-$29,
depending on the sz and I dont think you will be disappointed. IF you do
not have a food 4 less, they do sell it at GNC or most health food
stores-but its double in price there-OR you can order it on line at
allstarhealth.com and its the same price as Food 4 Less, with a flat
shipping rate of $5.95-I really hope this helps-I still do 2 shakes a day
and have done so since August-and its not let me down yet!! Good luck!

challenges of finding a protein drink that I like. I have a brand that
has wonderful taste in each of the flavors. It comes in several
ways to buy including POWDER and CANNED. It is ALL awesome. Easy to
order and track from, too!! I am soooo pleeezzzzeddddd!! The website is

My doctor let me eat almost from the very first lentil and split pea soups.
I purreed them initially but it wasn't long before I could eat them just
by chewing it up to mush before swallowing. He says the perfect protein is
lentil soup. I also use something called Shake from Trader Joe's. It's
35 Gm Protein in a can and not bad. But I really prefer the non-sweet of
the soups.

I just bought Iso Whey Breezer in the Pineapple flavour by InterActive
Nutrition. It tastes like juice. The Iced Tea flavour is great too! Good
Luck!

I have the same problem.... I can't stand the smell/taste of most
supplement stuff.
My experience is that soy based powders are the more difficult to mix it,
tend to have the chalky taste/feeling, and are less palatable.
Whey based protein supplements are a little bit better but not great...
easier to mask/hide in a drink but still not great.
I tried those "Nectar" protein powders that they claim can be
eaten out of the package and taste like candy---I don't know what kind of
candy they eat but it was pretty nasty. It's supposed to make a
"fruit juice-like drink" but was not palatable to me---lucky I
ordered a sample pack and got about 12 single serving packets....I will not
order these again.
The one product I tried and thought was decent--Syntrax Matrix 5.0. The
packet says "Matrix Sustained Release Protein Bind" and the
flavor I tried was "Cookies and Cream." I mixed it with milk and
too be honest, it was almost like a milkshake. I do not like cookies and
cream stuff because I hate the cookie pieces, but even with the cookie
pieces, it was something I could see myself really liking.
Lastly, I encourage you to check out the no sugar/no added sugar carnation
instant breakfast line. I use 1 packet with 1 cup of milk and it tastes
great. I accidently bought the regular kind, with sugar, and surprisinly,
I like the no sugar ones better than the sugar ones.
Hope this is helpful.

My absolute favorite proteins are the Nectar brand. They have several
fruit flavored whey protein powders which can be mixed with water. They
taste really good. My favorite flavors are the Roadside Lemonaide, which
I'll either just mix with water or I'll also add a packet of Crystal light
lemonaide to it for an extra boost of flavor. My other favorite is the
Fuzzy Navel, which is a peach flavor. I'll add it also just to water, or
I'll mix it with the peach flavored Propel. Nectar also comes in a variety
of other flavors, like cherry, tropical and others as well. I find the
Nectar at The Vitamin Shoppe. If you don't have one in your area, you can
shop online at: www.vitaminshoppe.com Good luck!

I bought Cookies n Cream by Matrix and it is yummy! Also is has 23 grams of
protein per scoop and I used 2 percent milk 8 oz and that was another 8
grams of protein. I had my lapband on May 23rd.

Tiffany,
Have you tried the ISOPURE No CARB Protein drinks. I like the Apple Melon,
Grape and Alpine Punch -- the orange is HORRIBLE. You can mix them with
water until you get used to the taste. Now I drink them without water.
They have 40 grams of protein a bottle. I would use a regular water bottle
and pout the entire bottle of protein in and fill the rest with water
--that dilutes the taste a bit; however, it is an acquire taste. It also
comes in a power you can mix in water and it's clear. It does have an
after taste and it does smell of melon, grape and punch but not a yucky
smell. Give those a try. You just have to keep trying until you find
something you like.

Any of these are what I use:
1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender
or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel
sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz hot water, stirred or
hand blender.
Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon
fights belly fat.
I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of
vit D3).
