Question:
Abdominal Pain
I am 4 month out and I just started with abdominal pain. It hurts right at the mouth of my stomache. I guess it's where my gallbladder is. I was wondering if that was normal? It's not severely painful but it very uncomfortable. Can someone please tell me what I should do? — Belen DeLeon (posted on November 6, 2006)

See your doctor, always when in doubt. Never assume anything. Good Luck!

I have to agree with Marc and Jolynn.... If you are having pain now, time
to call the surgeon, or your primary to get a referral, however your
insurance works. You may have developed a stricture at the
esophageal/gastric junction, or have an ulcer.... better to get it checked
out... you wouldn't want any serious complications that you could have
avoided by going to the doctor now.... good luck.

hi there. Always call your surgeon ASAP for any pain...that's what my
surgeon told me and he's been right. I've had to call twice and he met me
right at the ER to check things out. Never post-pone any pain in your
abdomen.
All the best to you!

Call your doctor.....Do you take any medications to prevent gall stones? If
you think the pain is in that area, you could have a stone....There are
meds that could work to disolve them if that is what it is. I take
'actigal' to prevent stones....
Good Luck

I have experienced 2 different things at different times after my surgery.
I had my gall bladder out before my surgery, but I would have had it out
with my GBP because that is what my surgeon does. If it was your gall
bladder the pain would be more that uncomfortable. For the first few months
after my GBP when I started eating solid food; I had an uncomfortable
feeling there always and I used that as a gage to know I had eaten enough.
I felt like my stomach was sitting in my chest instead of where it was
suppose to be. That went away after a year. Now, this last summer something
more serious happened- but the pain would go from mild to severe to mild
and felt like a burning and then like a ball of knives right in the middle
of my chest under my rib cage. I even ended up in the ER. Each episode
lasted for 6-8 hours. Turns out I had a type of ulcer developing because I
was eating raw vegies and grains that my intestines could not handle-
broccoli, Kashi whole grains (not the cereal) and wine and spirits. (I know
foolish right?)Well, I avoid all raw vegies that have a high fiber content
and get my fiber from other sources- because we still need it. I had a
colonoscopy done and fiber should still be an important part of your diet.
I can indulge in 1-2 glasses of wine every now and then- but it has to be
after I have eaten- and another word of caution- the drier the better. The
sweet wines be they white or red will still give me a bellyache if I drink
them without mixing them with something else. But reds are healthy- yes,
and a source of iron, but that is a personal preference of mine and I still
have to be careful as in everything that passes my lips. But this is just
what I went through- and what I do- please still if you haven't- ask your
doctor! It could be something serious and hopefully not. I am not saying
you should do or agree with anything I have said. But when I went through
it I didn't see anything from before on this either- hope you find your
answer! I know... I tend to ramble...
