Paula,
Congrats on your decsion to have surgery. My concern is you may have a
fever if you do it is possible you may not be able to have surgery. I got
a cold about 5 days before. I took ziacam which took care of the symptoms.
Before I did that though I confirmed with my surgen it was ok. On the
day of surgery I did not have any cold symptoms and had surgery.

I had the same thing. I was told as long as my Blood Count was okay then I
could have the surgey because they were giving me antibiotics for the
surgery anyway but make sure you tell your Dr. ASAP. They may be able to
give you something ahead of time also. Good Luck!! I myself am 6 weeks out
as of today.

Same thing happen to me, two days before my surgery. I rescheduled for the
following week. I caught a viral infection. I could have went thru with
the surgery, but with all of the coughing and sneezing, I decided I would
just postpone the procedure until I felt better.
I am glad I did. Believe me, you are sore after the surgery and the last
thing you want to do is cough and sneeze.
Besides I thought I wanted to be healthy when I get the surgery, it is a
major surgery and a person should be in good health before continuing.

I ended up having a fever after I arrived at the hospital the morning of
the surgery. It was unclear what was going on with me, but the surgeon said
he would do the surgery anyway. I was very relieved, but I will admit that
having an infection probably slowed my recovery a bit because I felt really
dragged down until he antibiotcs kicked in. Margo

I didn't have a fever, but I had a headache and a sinus infection start a
few days before surgery. I got a humidifier and tried to get in a lot of
vitamin c. I still had a sore throat when they were admitting me and I told
them, but they didn't seem concerned. they did take my temperature and it
was normal. I don't know if it would have made a difference if I had a
fever or not, but they didn't seem to be bothered by the symptoms I had. I
made sure that after surgery, that I did the breathing that they wanted me
to do to prevent pnumonia (sp?) so that I'd stay on top of it. I tend to
get bronchitis easily and was a little worried, but everything was fine.
If I were you, I'd ask, but try to take care of it before hand. just
remember not to take any ibuprofren or asprin before surgery. Tylonol
should be fine.

Hey Congrats! I was also sick. I had a chest cold even. Baisically, its up
to anesthesia (sp?). Before I went in, they listened to my lungs and gave
me a breathing treatment first. I have to admit that my recovery was a
little worse. I had to cough more often. But the surgery was done without a
hitch. I wouldn't worry. Good Luck!!!!
