Question:
what is supervised diet works too well?
from what i understand, most insurance plans (i have aetna) want you to go on a medically supervised weight loss plan. my surgeon uses opti-fast. right now i am 5'4" 225, with a bmi of 38.1....my co-morbidites are arthritis (i've had one knee replaced already) and sleep apnea. What if after the weight loss plan, aetna says that i don't weigh enough to have the surgery? anyone had this experience? thanks; kim — [Deactivated Member] (posted on April 8, 2006)

That's what happened to me. My BMI is 35.8 but when I went on the diet I
lost 10 pounds and Aetna denied me. I will have to pay for it my self. I
argued that the 10 pounds will come back, it has in the past. But Aetna
doesn't want to pay for the surgery. They win! I pay!

Hi, I ask my Dr. the same question. He said they always look at your weight
from the first time you weighed. That no matter how much you lose thats the
weight that counts. Mabe you should check with your ins. or talk to someone
that has the same kind. Good Luck.

If the diet works than you wouldn't have a need for a surgery and that
would be great. You really don't want surgery if you don't need it. I
really wish one of the many diets I had been on would have worked so that I
wouldn't have had to have the surgery. The surgery should always be the
last choice.
