Question:
MAJOR butt pain - not tailbone, and only 2 weeks out
I am embarrassed to ask but my butt (not bones, flesh) and hips are extremely painful - worse than the surgery pain. Any ideas or suggestions? It is unbearable and does not let up. Thanks much! — lisa40299 (posted on March 4, 2006)

I haven't had the surgery yet - still running thru the insurance hoops, but
I do have pain in my butt like you're describing. I've been told by the
Physical Therapist that its a muscle that has constricted and is pinching
the sciatic nerve - don't know if yours is caused by the sciatic nerve or
not, but maybe something got pinched during surgery or from laying funny
after surgery - best to talk to your doctor - pain in the butt cheek isn't
uncommon as far as I can tell. Good luck. I'm ready for my third PT
session and they gave me stretching exercises to do and mine is better.

I agrre that it is possibly sciatic nerve pain considering that during
surgery you are laying flat on a hard surface for two to three hours. Ice
packs on your lower back help decrease the inflamation along with liquid
motrin every 4 hours. However, kidney infections (not bladder) can also
radiate pain down the buttocks area and last but not least constipation can
also cause pain that mimicks sciatic nerve pain. See your doctor. Good
luck.

Lisa, I am a massage therapist and I help people with sciatic pain all the
time. I am not sure by what you are describing if that is what is
happening or not. There are some things that I could tell you to do, but I
do not know enough right now to make any sugestions. Feel free to check my
profile and email me if you want to...and we can even talk if you felt ok
with that...and if i can..i would love to give you some tips to help you.
If the pain is very extreme..it is important to always seek a physicians
advice.
