To keep your new stomach as long as you can at it's new shape. Another
world not to stretch the walls of the new stomach and not to put pressure
on the liver during the digestion process.

And the most important reason! Drinking while eating is grazing. Fluids
will wash food out of pouch, meaning that you never feel full, and eat
W-A-A-A-Y too much!
Drink up 'til first bite, then stop, and wait for an hour or so after.

Hi Jennifer, If you drink before you eat the fluids will fill you up very
fast and you wont be able to eat your protine which is your meat and other
things that gives you the protine your body needs. Due to the malsorbtion
that is not there any more after the surgery is why you can't drink 30
minutes before you eat or 30 minutes after you eat. Hope this helps you.

You should not eat before and after eating because you want the food to
stay in your new pouch for as long as possible. The liquids that you take
in basically go straight through you. So, especailly not after because
there is a chance you can flush out the food in your pouch.

Good info to know. I usually don't drink WHILE eating -- but then again I
haven't had the surgery yet -- so I can start practicing now.

In axdition to what the other said, I get ill if I eat and drink too
closely together! I have to wait at least a half hour after drinking to
eat, and an hour after eating to drink.

Stop drinking any liquids 30 minutes before you are to eat a meal. Then DO
NOT drink during the meal. You are to wait 30 minutes afterward the meal
before you drinkagain.Or you will wash out your meal fast and thenyou will
be hungry again. You will over eat this way.To me it works.

I don't know the medical reasons, and this is the MAIN thing I struggled
with, but I don't because it makes me ILL even if I just take a little sip
while eating.
